Spring is knocking and the countdown is ON. Opening day hits April 25th, and the Eastern Sierra is shaping up to fish incredibly well for early season.

I’ve got a few prime dates still open for that first week — April 27, 28, 29, and 30 — and if you’ve been thinking about getting out on the water, this is your window.

One of the best parts of guiding? Watching families actually connect out on the water—not staring at screens, not distracted—just dialed in and having a blast. And yeah… seeing these kids come back year after year turning into legit anglers never gets old.

We’re only a few weeks out from general trout season in the Eastern Sierra. Opening week still has a few spots left, but May and June are filling up fast.

One of the best parts of guiding is seeing family’s return each year. The kids get bigger and become more seasoned as anglers. Watching the enjoyment the entire family gets out of fly fishing is the true gift of guiding.

It’s that time of year 🔥

With these above-average temps, the trout on the Lower Owens are in full-on feeding mode—and the fishing is about as good as it gets right now.

Flows have jumped from ~85 cfs to 185 cfs with the snowpack melting fast, bringing in cool, clean water. Temps are sitting in that perfect 53–56°F range, and the fish are loving it.

Morning sessions are producing strong midge and BWO hatches, with caddis in the mix. Evenings have been just as productive—shorter window, but absolutely worth it.

Some nice ones to be had on the river. It’s that time of year again where fishing with high temps requires some extra thought and effort, get out early and handle fish with care getting them back in the water asap.

This was not the one that got away. Finally put a “Walter” in the net. Great catch Barbara. Such a picture perfect example to of a brown trout. Conditions are fair on Crowley at the moment. We’ve managed to stay on fish but it hasn’t come easy fishing 26’-30’ in depth. However the big boys are showing themselves. DM for availability. July is filling up fast and should offer some good opportunities for the shallow water game. Saw my first perch fry today.

Crowley continues to be the ticket. Lots of happy faces on the boat as of late. Get your trip on the books. Plenty of open dates but the summer is filling up fast. Hope to see you all on your next fishing trip to the Eastern Sierra.

The general trout season kicks off on April 26th, and I’m excited to see who’s joining in! It looks like it’s going to be a fantastic season ahead, and let’s hope for some pleasant weather on opening weekend. With good spring flows and high lake levels, we’re set up for a productive start this year. Crowley has been ice-free for months, so it’s game on! I can’t wait to hit the water!
