Statement from the Mayor of the City of Manassas

Our community is grieving.

Sadly, what should have been an evening of celebration, connection, and community was tragically overshadowed by an act of violence that took a life and has left our community shaken.
There are no adequate words for the pain experienced by the victim’s family and loved ones. On behalf of the City of Manassas, I extend my deepest condolences to them. We are keeping them, as well as the recovering victim and everyone who witnessed or was affected by this terrible incident, in our thoughts.

Let me be clear: violence has no place in Manassas. Our residents, families, businesses, and visitors deserve to feel safe when they come together in our city—whether they are attending First Friday, enjoying a restaurant, visiting a local business, or simply spending time with their families.

I want to thank the Manassas Police Department, our first responders, and the officers and emergency personnel who responded quickly and courageously. We will continue to support their investigation and their efforts to find and hold those responsible accountable. We need your help to make this happen.
This is also a time for us to remember who we are.
Manassas is a community that looks out for one another. We do not turn away from one another in difficult moments—we come together.

We will grieve together. We will support one another. And we will continue doing everything within our ability to protect the safety and security of our community.
First Friday represents the spirit of Manassas—a place where people gather, celebrate, support local businesses and restaurants and build community. We will not allow an act of violence to take that spirit away from us.
Our hearts and prayers are with the family who lost someone they love as well as the individual who is recovering. We are standing with you.

May we stand together as a community, reject violence, and reaffirm our commitment to making Manassas a safe and welcoming city for everyone.

Help us bring those who are responsible to justice, stand up for your community and don’t let this change who and what Manassas is. Let us show our strength and unite in bringing justice to the victims families.

Official First Friday event time: 6 p.m. - 10 p.m.

10:00 p.m. - On-street alcohol sales end. Bands finish with their sets.
10:30 p.m. - *CHANGE FOR 2026* On-street consumption of alcohol ends, no more, nada, guzzle it (responsibly...).
Here's where we need your help! If you're drinking, you must remain/return to inside a restaurant or bar (as occupancy permits), otherwise you must discard your drink and clear the streets. Please do not cause trouble and hassle the restaurants/bars! They're at capacity, DO NOT try and force your way in, don't be that knucklehead that ruins it for everyone - please?
11:00 p.m. - Heads up! Center Street begins re-opening...
Again, important note: At 10:30pm restaurants and bars are at capacity. ***This year we are asking that if you are not inside an establishment at 10:30pm, that you please help us, help the businesses, and help the police, by kindly exiting the downtown area so that the streets can be reopened safely and without incident.***

As always, remember this is a DORA event (Designated Outdoor Refreshment area) which means, you purchase a drink from a participating establishment and may walk around town with your drink - as long as it's in the designated cup that you will be provided. No outside coolers, bottles, cans, etc. - let's keep it fun (and safe)!
