This Railroad Adventure steams across Colorado and New Mexico. Travel on Five Scenic Trains, some of the highest altitude railroads in America, during the day and enjoy comfortable rooms and fine dining at night. It’s an all-fun, all-natural Rocky Mountain High, combining adventure and history into one great group tour.
Day 1: Enjoy a SWEET TREAT as we depart for Philadelphia (PHL). We will have a motorcoach waiting for us when we arrive in Denver (DEN). Depending on our arrival time, there will be an activity (not included), and lunch on your own.. Our home for the evening is the DRURY PLAZA HOTEL DENVER CENTRAL PARK. Tonight’s dinner is the hotel’s NIGHTLY KICKBACK. They have a rotating menu, fountain soda, and 3 adult beverage tickets per person. The hotel features both indoor and outdoor pools and whirlpools. The pool hours are 9:00 am -10:00 pm.

Day 2: We start our morning with a BREAKFAST buffet before departing for IDAHO SPRINGS, CO. Our LUNCH is at TOMMYKNOCKER BREWERY https://www.tommyknocker.com. Arrive in GEORGETOWN, CO, at 8,500 feet. She was once known as the “Silver Queen of Colorado.” Here, your first train ride is on the GEORGETOWN SCENIC RAILROAD https://www.georgetownlooprr.com. An old-time steam locomotive chugs its way up the canyon, hauling your train past the remains of several gold and silver mines. This open car train takes you between Georgetown and Silver Plume, over 2 miles apart, over mountainous terrain, requiring trestles, cuts, fills, loops, and curves totaling 3.1 miles of narrow-gauge track. Enjoy DINNER at FAMOUS DAVE’S BBQ https://www.famousdaves.com/Grand-Junction. Treat yourself to authentic, pit-smoked BBQ, made-from-scratch sides, and handcrafted desserts. Check into the HAMPTON INN GRAND JUNCTION for an overnight stay. This hotel has an outdoor pool. Pool hours are 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Day 3: We start our morning with BREAKFAST at the hotel. Today, take a three-hour JEEP TOUR over 12,000-foot Corkscrew Pass into the Red Mountains. You ride beside high mountain cliffs overhanging mining trails, where the clear air and the color of the red mountains are simply astonishing. A PICNIC LUNCH will be included. https://soajeep.com. The Jeep Tour ends in Historic SILVERTON, CO, where you will board train #2, the SILVERTON-DURANGO RAILROAD https://www.durangotrain.com. This steam locomotive travels along the Animas River, winding through spectacular & breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of San Juan National Forest. You may feel as though you are reliving history as you travel on the same tracks that miners, cowboys, and settlers of the Old West took over a century ago. DINNER tonight at GAZPACHO RESTAURANT https://gazpachodurango.com. Established in 1991, Gazpacho is a family-run business with the same values from it’s beginning-bringing famous authentic New Mexican cooking to Durango, Colorado. A local's favorite and a treat for visitors. Check in to the SKY UTE CASINO RESORT for a 1-night stay. This resort is owned and operated by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, which is located on the Southern Ute Indian Reservation. Enjoy comfort in their luxury hotel rooms. Day 4: BREAKFAST is included at the hotel. Breakfast burritos will be available to eat either before departure or take with you to eat while traveling to Chama, NM. Sit back and relax for a ride on train #3, THE CUMBRES & TOLTEC RAILROAD https://cumbrestoltec.com. Perhaps the most beautiful ride in America, it is a rugged, narrow-gauge, coal-fired, steam-powered mountain railroad traversing 64 miles of unparalleled scenery. You climb through an unspoiled landscape, past historic railroad structures dating back to the turn of the twentieth century. You enjoy the grandeur of the ROCKY MOUNTAINS as this sure-footed locomotive rolls through tunnels, above deep gorges, and over Cumbres Pass. Day 5: We start our morning with BREAKFAST at the hotel. Today, ride the ROYAL GORGE TRAIN https://royalgorgeroute.com
for a scenic journey through the spectacular ROYAL GORGE. Since 1879, these tracks have followed the winding, tumbling Arkansas River deep within the soaring 1,000-foot granite cliffs of Colorado’s Royal Gorge. The Royal Gorge Route is a quality, Colorado attraction – no thrill rides or cotton candy – just rugged scenery. This ride also includes LUNCH on the train. This afternoon, TOUR the GARDEN OF THE GODS PARK https://gardenofgods.com, a Registered National Natural Landmark in COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. Learn of the park’s geology with the 14-minute movie, and experience Native-American culture. Dinner this evening is on your own in Colorado Springs. Day 6: We start our morning with BREAKFAST at the hotel. TOUR the MANITOU CLIFF DWELLINGS https://www.cliffdwellingsmuseum.com, located at the foot of PIKES PEAK. You are free to touch and even go inside these fascinating architectural remnants of an American Indian culture that roamed the Four Corners area of the Southwest from 1200 B.C. to A.D.1300. Lunch is on your own in MANITOU SPRINGS. Onward to RIDE THE PIKES PEAK COG RAILWAY - New trains, new depot, new Summit Visitor Center, new track, and one of the most unique experiences in the world. It’s historic: we’ve been climbing to the top of Pikes Peak since 1891. It’s emotionally moving: this place inspired “America the Beautiful, written by Katherine Lee Bates, whose experience in 1893 on top of Pikes Peak moved her to pen the poem that became one of the most patriotic songs honoring America. Day 7: After a hearty BREAKFAST at the hotel, your motorcoach will transport you to the Denver airport, where you meet your return flight home. Upon Arrival in Philadelphia, our bus will be waiting to transport you back to Lancaster.
