⚠️Lake Michigan History Spotlight:
The 1967 Coho Frenzy
In 1967, Lake Michigan made headlines for all the wrong reasons. 😳
Word spread FAST—-“the coho are in!”—and thousands of anglers hit the water in every kind of boat imaginable. But when the weather turned, excitement turned to disaster.
💥 Over 150 boats capsized
💥 200 more were beached or abandoned
💥 Dozens rescued, and lives tragically lost
That weekend became known as the 1967 Coho Fishing Disaster—-a day that changes Great Lakes history forever. It sparked safer boating practices, stronger awareness, and a deep respect for the power of Lake Michigan. 🌊 🌊
What started as a frenzy built the fishery we know today—and the tradition that still packs every launch when the coho roll in.
At Tackle Haven we’re honoring the anglers and the history that built out fishery.
