Our community thanks St. Andrews Episcopal Church for its many years of service to Manitou and playing a HUGE part in its history. The church's cornerstone was laid in 1905 and behind the stone was a time capsule filled with reminders of the Church's presence and past in Manitou. On Monday, the cornerstone was finally removed to reveal the treasures of our town's and this incredible church's past...

First Friday March 7 (Noon-8pm) through June, 2025•••“Ski Areas of the Pikes Peak Region”

The Manitou Springs Heritage Museum proudly announces the opening of its new Winter exhibit, “Ski Areas of the Pikes Peak Region”. The exhibit is a collaboration with the Colorado Snowsports Museum in Vail, who provided some amazing historic photographs. Due to the efforts of the Pikes Peak Ski Club and Don Lawrie, the club’s first president, ski areas like the Pikes Peak Ski Area and Ski Broadmoor were successful for many years while other Ski Areas were planned, but never operational. This exhibit tells the stories of the early skiing pioneers who were dedicated to promoting the sport of skiing within the Pikes Peak Region.

February 15•••Saturday 10am•••“A History of Skiing on Pikes Peak” by Don Sanborn

The Manitou Springs Heritage Museum proudly hosts local runner, racer, mountaineer and historian Don Sanborn and his presentation, “A History of Skiing on Pikes Peak”. The presentation will accompany the launch of our new winter exhibit called “Ski Areas of the Pikes Peak Region”. The presentation will cover the evolution of skiing on Pikes Peak from 1929 – 1984, including but not limited to:
• Edlowe Ski Jumping Area and the formation of the Silver Spruce Ski Club
• Glen Cove Ski Area and the formation of the Pikes Peak Ski Club
• Elk Park (Pikes Peak Ski Area)
• Holiday Hills

All these Ski Areas were challenged with poor snow conditions. This presentation tells the stories of the dedication, perseverance and funding it took to establish and maintain the sport of skiing in the Pikes Peak Region. Find out which amazing feat earned Don Sanborn’s Grandfather Don Lawrie a seat in the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame.

Don hails from a family which has been very active on Pikes Peak. He is the only person who has raced in the Pikes Peak Auto Hill Climb, run the Pikes Peak Marathon and climbed with the AdAmAn Club. Don is an engaging speaker, so save the date and don’t miss it!
