Darby's Destinations

Darby's Destinations Extraordinary trips for exceptional travelers, where the details make all the difference. A true travel expert who unlocks extraordinary experiences.

I’ve always loved to travel — I’m sure that comes as no surprise! Even as a little girl, I savored our frequent family vacations. We’d visit my parents charming clapboard home on Cape Cod or fly to Florida to visit relatives and meet the Mouse at Walt Disney World. I even made a trip all by myself to see my grandparents in Seattle, and then we traveled north up to chilly British Columbia to spend

time with more beloved relatives. I couldn’t wait to pack my bags and go … and I always wanted to stay longer. The combination of sublime comfort, connection, and curiosity that I felt during those travels never left me. And it’s why I’ve dedicated my life to crafting these kinds of experiences for others. We all deserve to know what it’s like to explore with wild abandon, indulge in our deepest cravings, and connect with the family and friends who remind us what this one precious life is all about. I love planning escapes for my clients that take them all over the world — from the glittering lights of Paris to the shimmering surf of a tiny Caribbean island. What unites these trips, however, is my clients’ fierce desire to get more out of their vacations — more discoveries, more relaxation, more luxury, and more reconnection to the ones they love. And to experience all this with less hassles, to boot. We travel exactly because we want to escape the to-do’s that bog down our day-to-day lives. So why add travel planning to your to-do list? That’s what I’m here for. For me, the thrill is in the details — I thrive on creating individualized itineraries that cater to each clients’ own travel style. What can I say? I love living vicariously through my clients’ awesome adventures! So whether you’re looking for a romantic escape, an eye-opening family journey, or just a trip full of extra-special touches, I’d love to free up more of your free time to dream about your destination by taking care of all the travel details.

If you’re coming through Heathrow Airport and want to make things easier, and far more memorable, this is worth knowing about.

The Windsor by Heathrow is a private terminal for commercial flights, completely separate from the main airport. You’re met on arrival and taken straight into your own lounge, while check-in, security, and immigration are handled behind the scenes.

From there, everything is taken care of. Dedicated butler service, food overseen by Jason Atherton, and even shopping brought directly to you if needed. The recently updated lounges also feature a curated art collection, including works by Banksy and Andy Warhol.

When it’s time to board, you’re driven straight to the aircraft.

Perhaps not something you need every trip, but for certain departures or arrivals, it makes a noticeable difference.

In Saint-Germain-des-Prés, where the Left Bank’s café culture, galleries and literary history still shape the mood, Hôtel Villa-des-Prés feels very much of its surroundings.

Designed in the spirit of a Parisian apartment, the interiors lean warm and layered, rich fabrics, books, art, and thoughtful details that reflect that creative energy. Rooms and suites follow the same idea, each one slightly different.

There’s also a small pool and spa downstairs, a quiet bonus in this part of Paris, along with a low-lit bar that works well at the end of the day.

Oh, and it was awarded a Michelin Key in 2025, which gives you a good sense of what to expect.

On the south side of Edinburgh, right at the foot of Arthur’s Seat, The Scott sits in a quieter, greener pocket of the city that a lot of people don’t immediately think to stay in.

The Scott itself is set within a baronial mansion dating back to the 1750s, tucked within the spacious University of Edinburgh grounds. Originally a private home, it still holds onto that sense of scale and character, but without feeling formal.

There are just 36 rooms, all a little different, with a mix of classic detailing and more modern touches.

Dining is at Bonnar’s, where the focus is on seasonal Scottish ingredients, much of it sourced locally, even foraged from the surrounding estate. And then there’s the Velvet Lounge, which is exactly where you’ll want to end the evening. Dark, relaxed, and very well stocked.

A good option in the capital if you’re looking for an alternative to the usual luxury names.

In the southwest of Ireland, about 1.5 hours from Cork and roughly 3–4 hours from Dublin, Killarney is one of the best bases for exploring this part of the country, sitting right alongside the Wild Atlantic Way.

From here, you can head straight into Killarney National Park for early walks or bike rides, take a traditional jaunting car through the park, get out on the lakes by boat, or spend the day driving the Ring of Kerry or over to the Di**le Peninsula. It’s the kind of place where you can be as active as you like.

Back in town, settle in at Killarney Royal Townhouse.

It’s small and low-key, rooms are classic and comfortable, service is personal, and it has that easy, “home for a few days” feel that works particularly well here.

And of course, no day here really ends without a good glass of something in a proper Irish pub.

I recently had a wonderful experience with Moloney & Kelly during my first visit to Edinburgh, and I genuinely hope it won’t be my last.

We covered the well-known landmarks, but also spent time in the tucked-away corners you’d never find on your own. A private dinner here, a hidden spot there.. in rain and shine, it was just brilliant.

And of course, the Highland cows made their appearance - always a highlight!

Here’s Rebecca Morrison, M&Ks Leisure Sales Manager, sharing a bit more on what makes a visit to Edinburgh that much more special.

Not sure how many people have come across Omicron Hotels yet, but it’s a great little find. You’ll probably recognize them from Vogue, Architectural Digest, or Vanity Fair. They’ve also had a few nods from the Michelin Guide.

They’re a small, family-owned Greek collection, mostly in Athens and Crete. Each property stands on its own, but there’s a clear thread running through them. Whether it’s a resort or villa setup, everything feels intentional, both in the design and in how the stay comes together.

You’ve got the best of both. Time out exploring, island hopping, hiking, being on the water, balanced with things like open-air cinema, bathhouses, yoga, and just slowing down when you feel like it.

It’s one of those where you can dip in and out of the destination, or just stay put and enjoy it as it is.

If the desert is calling, here’s one to try 🌵

Ambiente Sedona is an adults-only, family-run retreat set right in the heart of the red rocks, with no resort fees and a noticeably calmer feel than most in the area. It’s also the first landscape hotel of its kind in North America, built with a clear respect for the land.

Each stay is its own glass atrium, positioned so you’re surrounded by the red rocks from every angle. Mornings start slowly here, sunrise from bed, coffee on your deck, and no real rush to be anywhere. The spa and dining make it very easy to stay put for the day.

When you do head out, trails start right from the property, or there’s a car service to take you further afield. It’s easy to mix it up, one day out on a Jeep through the red rocks, another up in a hot air balloon at sunrise, or just a guided hike straight from the hotel.

A really good option if you want Sedona to feel a bit more private and considered, whether as part of a wider Southwest trip or just a few nights to switch off.

Getting messages like this after a trip is honestly my favorite part of the job ☺️

This one covered Paris, Portugal and Morrocco with a lot happening behind the scenes to make it all feel seamless. What really stood out in the feedback was the people:

In Paris, guides who went above and beyond, from an unexpected visit inside Notre Dame to making the Louvre come to life.

In Portugal, a guide who stayed throughout and really tuned into what mattered, shaping the experience along the way, and even arranging a surprise moment over lunch at Tia Alice that no one saw coming.

In Morocco, a driver who truly took care of everything, from helping secure an early check-in when it was needed to making sure key moments, like Rick’s Café, didn’t get missed. A stay at La Sultana Marrakech that more than delivered, along with a local cooking experience.

A packed itinerary, but full of really wonderful moments!

At The Newt in Somerset, you’re about two hours from London, but it’s a very different kind of stay to what most US travellers expect from the English countryside.

This is a working estate, and you feel that. The gardens, orchards, and farm aren’t just for show, they shape everything, from the food to what you spend your time doing.

You might start in the spa, join a garden tour, taste your way through the cyder cellar, or just wander…

It’s not trying to be a classic country house hotel, which is exactly why it stands out.

At Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria, the entrance sits just off Sorrento’s main square, but step inside and it opens into five acres of gardens and terraces overlooking the Bay of Naples 🍋

It’s still family-run, now in its sixth generation, and that shows in the way it’s held onto its character. Just 79 rooms, a Michelin-starred restaurant, a Champagne bar, and one detail I love: a private lift straight down to the marina.

From Piazza Tasso, you can easily head out to Capri, Positano, Pompeii or Naples, but it’s just as easy to stay put.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting three UK properties from Dorchester Collection: The Dorchester, 45 Park Lane, and Coworth Park.

From Mayfair to the English countryside, each delivers something quite different, but all with a very considered approach to how a stay should feel.

A closer look at what really sets these stays apart, with thanks to Susannah Lurie, Area Director of Sales, for sharing such thoughtful insider insights.
