Manzanita Public Works will be closing the 5th Street public restroom facility the morning of September 17, 2026, and it will remain closed until the renovation is completed.

The work will include:

Power washing and painting of the interior and exterior
Sealing the concrete floor
New plumbing
New, durable ADA-compliant stainless-steel fixtures
New, brighter lighting
A new mural on the east-facing exterior wall

Other restroom facilities remain available at City Hall, City Park
and the Manzanita Visitors Center

The Manzanita City Council has unanimously selected Jennifer Watkins as its choice to serve as Manzanita’s next City Manager. Watkins has been offered the position, and the City has begun contract negotiations with her.

On Friday, August 28, 2026, the Manzanita City Council voted unanimously to offer Jennifer Watkins the City Manager position, pending contract negotiations. The Council made its selection after considering four finalists. One finalist withdrew from consideration before the Council began its deliberations. The finalist evaluation process took place over four days and included receptions with City staff and community members, as well as panel interviews with community leaders, peer public administrators, City staff, and the City Council.

Mayor Kathryn Stock shared, “On behalf of the City Council of Manzanita, I am really pleased to be welcoming Jennifer Watkins to our community. We wouldn’t have been able to reach this decision without the incredible input of our community. Thank you to everyone who participated, who showed up and listened, and gave us their candid feedback.”

Jennifer Watkins expressed, “I am honored to be selected as Manzanita’s next City Manager. This is a special community defined by its extraordinary and engaged residents. I look forward to working side-by-side with the Mayor, City Council, City staff, and community members to protect what makes Manzanita unique while thoughtfully navigating our future together.”

Jennifer Watkins is the Co-Founder and Director of Operations for the Alliance for Rural Impact (ARI) and Principal of LOF, LLC. Ms. Watkins previously served as Plan Facilitation Director for Building Communities, Inc. in Boise, Idaho; Assistant City Manager and Director of Community Development for the City of Baker City, Oregon; and Community Development Specialist/Council Assistant for the City of Baker City, Oregon. Ms. Watkins holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Eastern Oregon University.

Manzanita Public Works is looking to hire an individual for utility worker I / II

Under close supervision, the Utility Worker I performs routine and semi-skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of City of Manzanita streets, water distribution systems, wastewater and stormwater systems, parks, and other City-owned properties and facilities. This is an entry-level position intended to provide on-the-job training while developing skills in public works operations, safety practices, and municipal maintenance procedures.

Under general supervision, the Utility Worker II performs a full range of skilled and semi-skilled public works duties involving the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of City of Manzanita streets, water distribution systems and stormwater systems, parks, and other City-owned infrastructure. This is a journey-level classification with significantly higher expectations for independence, technical competence, reliability, and accountability than Utility Worker I. Employees are expected to identify issues, take corrective action, and complete assignments with minimal supervision

Following a robust national search, the City of Manzanita, Oregon has designated four finalists for the position of City Manager: Christopher Longinetti, Kevin Orton, Kathryn Schreiner, and Jennifer Watkins.

The Manzanita community is invited to participate in facilitated roundtable group conversations with the finalists on the evening of Tuesday, August 25th from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm at Manzanita City Hall (655 Manzanita Ave, Manzanita, OR 97130).
