In light of the recent flooding of Bright Angel Creek, we have been in frequent contact with our trips currently on the water. All trips, guides, and passengers are doing well and will continue as planned. No rafting trips in the Grand Canyon have been adversely affected by the flooding. Our scheduled trips for the remainder of the 2026 season are expected to launch without interruption.
Our hearts are with those affected by the flooding of Bright Angel Creek.

Thanks to Randy Van Haverbak on Facebook for calling out the the Kanab ambersnail was actually delisted from the endganger species list when it was genetically tested and found not to be a distinct subspecies of ambersnail. Here's what we had to say about these snails when we thought they were a separate subspecies:
There are only two known populations of this snail in the world. One is in a series of small ponds near Kanab, Utah, and the other is here at Vasey's Paradise. This species is a relic from the Pleistocene ice age when wetlands in the southwest were much more abundant. https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/nature/kanabasnail.htm

Camp life in the Grand Canyon looks a little different than your average camping trip.

Every evening, we find a new patch of sand to call home, set up camp, eat a meal prepared by the guides, watch the sun disappear behind the canyon walls, and fall asleep under a sky full of stars.

Then comes the coffee call, breakfast, breaking down camp, loading the boats, and doing it all over again somewhere new.

It takes a few days to find the rhythm, but by the end of the trip, you’ll wonder why you ever needed a schedule in the first place. 🏜️🌙

We got you for a minute, didn't we? Don't worry it's Friday! For this week's , we have a gastropod question:

Most of you will probably recognize this spring as Vasey's Paradise. It springs out of the Redwall Limestone on river right after Stanton's Cave and before you reach Redwall Cavern. But, do you know what critically endangered snail lives at this spring?

Last week's answer: Called the "Anasazi Foot Bridge," these are prehistoric pine timbers that once made up part of an Ancestral Puebloan trail. People used to hike into and out of the north side of the canyon along this trail and over this bridge.
