Crystal River Jeep Tours

We are veteran & local family owned/operated and have been continuously operating since 1951 in Marble Colorado. Tour departures are at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

We get to take passengers around the Lead King Loop, to the Crystal Mill and to all the trailheads that are difficult to get to around Marble. We are a seasonal business, open from late May to October 7-days a week. See our web site for tour options and pricing.

As we wrap up another incredible season at Crystal River Jeep Tours™, our hearts are full of gratitude. ❤️

2026 was especially meaningful to us because it marked our 75th season of continuous operation! Seventy-five seasons of sharing these beautiful mountains, the history of Marble, the magic of the Crystal Mill, and the unforgettable adventures of the Crystal River Valley.

To every guest who climbed aboard one of our Jeeps this season — THANK YOU! Whether you came to capture the perfect photograph, experience the rugged mountain roads, explore the history of this special place, or simply make memories with family and friends, we are truly grateful you chose to spend part of your adventure with us.

Every tour is a reminder of just how fortunate we are to do what we love. We get to meet wonderful people from near and far, share a place we call home, and help create memories that we hope will last a lifetime. That is something we will never take for granted. 🏔️📸

We are grateful to see Gunnison County Public Works and the White River National Forest working together to address some of the hazards along the Crystal River Road near the Devil’s Punch Bowl. 🚙⛰️

As a permitted commercial operator in this area for 75 years, we truly appreciate the work that goes into maintaining access while also protecting the safety and character of these rugged mountain roads.

❤️ A little reassurance for our guests: This project does not affect our Crystal River Jeep Tours or shuttles. Our permitted routes and current tour operations remain unaffected.

For clarity, Crystal River Jeep Tours has not been operating on the section of trail that is currently being addressed near the Devil’s Punch Bowl for nearly 10 years. Our tours continue to follow our permitted routes through the Crystal River Valley, including our trips to the historic Crystal Mill.

We are thankful for the crews who work hard in challenging mountain conditions to keep these roads accessible and safer for residents, visitors, outfitters, hunters and everyone who enjoys this incredible part of Colorado.

We love these mountains, we respect the roads that take us through them, and we are grateful to be able to share this beautiful country with our guests year after year.

After all the rain we’ve received, Mother Nature has slowed the fall-color show down a little. Earlier this season, we were nearly 3 weeks ahead of normal — but now we’re about a week behind our typical schedule.

After the recent rain, the progression of fall color has slowed down. Earlier this season, we were actually about 3 weeks ahead of our normal color schedule. Now, Mother Nature has hit the brakes a little, and we’re sitting about a week behind our typical timing. 🌧️🍂

I do not fear man or devil; it is not in my blood, & if they can shoot any straighter or quicker than I, let them try it, for a .44 equalizes frail women & brute men, & all women ought to be able to protect themselves against such ruffians.” -- Ellen “Captain Jack” Elliot, Queen of the Rockies.
Ellen Elliott Jack was born in New Lentern, Nottingham, England, on November 4, 1842. As a young girl, Ellen encountered a gypsy queen who foretold of a life of tragedy & treasures. Ellen met her future husband, Charles E. Jack, in 1860 whilst aboard the steamer, James Foster. Once married, Ellen settled with Charles in New York, but soon he left the city & became a Navy captain during the Civil War.
Ellen “Captain Jack” Elliot, Queen of the Rockies.
Ellen decided that she would head west. She established a thriving boarding house in Gunnison, Colorado & began her search for treasure in the mines of Colorado. During one of her trips into the mountains, Ellen discovered the very profitable, Black Queen silver mine near Marble Colorado. The mine provided Ellen with happiness as well as heartache. Several men proclaimed their love for her, but Ellen did not return that love until she met a man named Walsh. It turned out that Walsh was a con man & he tried, & failed, to steal all of Ellen’s wealth.

Accomplished at handling pistols & ri**es, Ellen had to use these weapons more than once throughout her life. Of the numerous times she was arrested, Ellen was always justified in shooting the man or men who tried to steal, cheat, or kill her. Ellen spent the rest of her life prospecting in the Colorado area. It is said she always carried her pistol & her pick-ax with her no matter where she traveled.

The photograph, from a 1906 picture postcard, depicts Captain Jack Elliot, Queen of the Rockies, at around the age of 64 holding her British Bull Dog double-action .44 calibre revolver.
