A Jesus Lizard by my house!

A Jesus Lizard by my house!

This is a brown basilisk, an invasive species spreading throughout south Florida. Some of you might know it better as a “Jesus Lizard” because of the biblical reference of walking on water. To escape predators this lizard forms small cups on its feet, allowing it to run on water to escape predators! It can run for a long period of time on water, but long enough to get far enough away from an enemy before it starts swimmimg. Very neat to watch!

Throwback 19 months to Lizzie’s first public appearance!

04/24/2026

A throwback to September 2024, female Lucky Charm gave birth to her first documented calf named Lizzie. Many of our females will give birth at 8-10 years old but Lucky Charm was 18 when she had Lizzie. Lizzie has 6 brothers and sisters and Lucky Charm is teaching Lizzie to feed right where all of Lizzie’s siblings learned to catch fish.
Lucky Charm is a great teacher and Lizzie has at least 1 1/2 more years by mom’s side to become an efficient young dolphin.
Lizzie’s grandma is Avery and there is a good possibility that Avery is pregnant, hopefully giving birth this Fall. Lizzie might have a new aunt or uncle soon! dolphin-study.com
