Cobb County Safety Village

Cobb County Safety Village The Cobb County Safety Village believes that education is the key to reducing risk and protecting our community.

By reaching out to all residents, we can teach important safety techniques and involve residents in hands-on learning experiences. Cobb Safety Village is located in the heart of Cobb County, Ga., and is the most comprehensive safety training environment in the Southern region. The facility helps residents and business members gain wisdom through hands on experiences. It is a place where the walls

come alive with knowledge while instructors share the most advanced techniques and ideas for making our community safer. The safety village also contains a child-size representation of Cobb, complete with trees and scaled-down models of operative buildings with signage, streets, traffic lights and homes. The site has four distinct areas, each presenting the opportunity to teach children how to react when faced with fire, crime and disaster emergencies, as well as drug and alcohol awareness and pedestrian safety..

With the tremendous amount of recent rainfall 🌧️ , water levels across our area have risen significantly. The depth and movement of the water may be much different than normal and can change quickly.

Please use extreme caution around creeks, rivers, lakes, flooded areas, and storm drains. Even shallow moving water can be dangerous.

🛟 If you are not a strong swimmer, wear a life jacket when near or on the water.🚫 Never drive or walk through flooded roadways.👀 Keep a close watch on children and pets near water.

Stay alert, stay safe, and respect the power of moving water. 💦

Did you know that more older children and teens drown in open water than in pools? A day at the beach or the lake is fun for kids, but open water also has risks, which are different from those in a swimming pool. According to the United States Coast Guard, 87% of people who drown while boating were not wearing a life jacket. Be aware of situations that are unique to open water, such as limited visibility, depth, uneven surfaces, currents, and undertow.

Lint happens. Fires don’t have to. Lint buildup can lead to a dryer fire if it’s not cleaned regularly.

• Clean the lint filter before or after each load.
• Make sure the outdoor vent flap opens when the dryer is running.
• Have a qualified service person clean the inside of the dryer cabinet and exhaust duct once a year.

Dear Cobb County Residents,

We are currently experiencing extreme drought conditions in the County. The annual statewide burn ban is in effect for all yard waste
materials such as leaves and limbs until September 30. Currently, the ban does not include recreational fires, bonfires, or fires for the purpose of cooking. Additional information is provided on the Cobb County Fire Marshal’s Office (CCFMO) webpage:
https://www.cobbcounty.gov/fire/fire-marshals-office/outdoor-burning. Extreme caution should be taken if you have any of the fires allowed during the drought conditions. We will continue to monitor the drought conditions and inform citizens if the burn ban
expands to include all fires.

The use of consumer fireworks does not fall under the County’s burn ban. Furthermore, the County does not have the authority to ban
the use of consumer fireworks under O.C.G.A Tile 25 Section 25-10-2.1. The State Fire Marshal can ban the use of fireworks. CCFMO will notify the residents if such ban is issued by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

CCFMO recommends NOT using consumer fireworks and encourages all citizens to attend one professional firework shows in the
County. Below are the typical professional fireworks shows that are on or around Fourth of July:

• City of Marietta
• City of Kennesaw
• City of Powder Springs
• City of Acworth
• Mt. Paran North Church of God
• Marietta Country Club
• Governor’s Town Club
• Pine Tree Country Club
• Indian Hills Country Club
• Town Green – Legacy Park

The State Law was recently amended to include penalties for injury to another person or damage to other property from the use of
consumer fireworks.

If you see active outdoor burning that is not within the ordinance or appears out of control contact 911 to report the issue.

Thank you
