BYC Then and Now:

Here’s a glimpse of some past activities at BYC on this schedule from 1955 – it was a busy season with plenty of racing and social events on the calendar! It also happened to be the year the Club moved to its present location on Water Street.

Wondering what’s ahead for this summer? Visit www.beverlyyachtclub.org/racing for race dates and registration info. And remember to check each week’s Currents and the calendar on the member website to find out about all the Club's events. Our Mother’s Day Brunch, New Member Cocktail Party, Men’s Shakedown Cruise, and Commissioning are coming up in May!

Sail it double-handed with a partner or bring your full crew—your race, your way.

Legacy is a father-son double-handed entry, while Kanga is bringing family and friends. The Tower X Salty 100 provides skippers a new challenge, the space to fine-tune crew skills, or just a great day out on the water with friends.

Distance. Strategy. Family. Friends. What motivates you to get out there?

Shout-out to Community Boating Center's Youth Offshore Team for registering TWO boats in the combined Tower & Salty 100 races. That's right - two entries, double the determination and a whole lot of next-generation talent.

These dedicated sailors are pushing beyond the basics of racing - they're mastering offshore navigation, watch systems, teamwork, weather strategy and seamanship, taking on real offshore challenges and showing what teamwork, grit, and passion look like out on the water.

Fair winds to teams CRAZY HORSE and RED SHIFT - we can't wait for them to make waves on race day! Will they see you on July 10th?

Join us for a new racing opportunity on Buzzards Bay in 2026!

BYC’s Salty 100 returns this summer on July 10 -11 in an exciting new format, sailing alongside the 58th Parker Converse Tower Race in a new collaboration between the Beverly Yacht Club and the Storm Trysail Club.

Designed like a half-marathon/full-marathon pairing, the two races are distinct but sailed together: Tower Race competitors will sail the traditional 48-mile course on Buzzards Bay, while Salty 100 teams will complete the same course twice, adding a second lap for an extended offshore challenge. Additionally, the Salty 100 has been named an Official Feeder Race for the Marion Bermuda Race, with some teams using it as a tune-up for the 50th Anniversary edition in 2027. We hope you’ll come out to race with us for this new, special event!

We’re visiting 1886 for a throwback post this week! What made that year notable? Mayflower beat Galatea in the 1886 America’s Cup. And if you’re wondering how it’s related to BYC, Mayflower was the second America’s Cup defender designed by none other than Edward Burgess, the Beverly Yacht Club’s first commodore (1872-1873).

Though trained as an entomologist, his true passion was designing and racing sailboats. Between 1884 and 1891, he designed 137 vessels including three America’s Cup defenders: Puritan, Mayflower, and Volunteer. Burgess is standing farthest to the left in this picture of Mayflower from 1886.

Founded in 1872, the purpose of the Club is to promote yachting and good fellowship among its members. Follow along to see what’s coming up at BYC in 2026!
