Spend a morning caring for the Merced River during the Great Sierra River Cleanup on Saturday, September 19.

Volunteers will meet at Briceburg for a stewardship event along the Merced Wild & Scenic River area, with cleanup gear provided. All ages are welcome, and children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The cleanup runs from 9 AM to 1 PM, with snacks, water and lunch provided as a thank-you to volunteers. RSVP is encouraged, and walk-in volunteers are welcome.

Yosemite Facelift returns September 23–27, giving local volunteers a hands-on way to participate in Yosemite National Park stewardship.

Registration is free and open to all, with daily volunteer check-in, clean-ups and sponsor booths from 8 AM to 4 PM. The event also includes drawings from 5 to 6 PM and evening programs with speakers and films from 7 to 10 PM.

Hosted by the Yosemite Climbing Association in partnership with the National Park Service.

Highway 140 Centennial Day: A century of connection, community and memories made along the way!

Yosemite Mariposa County Tourism Bureau staff were honored to join the Mariposa County Board of Supervisors this week as they presented a proclamation officially recognizing September 22, 2026, as Highway 140 Centennial Day.

Completed into Yosemite National Park in 1926, the historic “All-Year Highway” has connected generations of residents, businesses and visitors along the Merced River corridor, helping shape the communities and tourism economy of Mariposa County.

The centennial is more than a look back. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the people and partnerships that have shaped Highway 140, recognize the stewardship happening today, and look toward the next 100 years of community vitality, economic opportunity and care for this special corridor.

We’re grateful to the Board of Supervisors for recognizing this milestone and to our partners at Yosemite National Park and the Mariposa Museum & History Center for helping bring this story to life.

We’ll see you September 22!

Good news: Highway 140 has reopened under one-way traffic control between the Yosemite Bug Rustic Mountain Resort area in Midpines and Briceburg Road. Traffic is being escorted through the area, so expect delays.

Please drive with caution, watch for firefighters and road crews working in the area, and allow extra travel time.

Thank you to the firefighters, Caltrans crews and everyone working to safely reopen this important route.

The Mariposa County Fair starts tomorrow and runs through Monday!

The fair is one of our county's favorite traditions. Kick off Saturday with the Fair Parade through downtown Mariposa, then enjoy the midway, livestock exhibits, rodeo events, live entertainment and the demolition derby throughout the weekend.

Important information about the Colorado Fire.

Important Message from: Yosemite Mariposa County Tourism Bureau:

Dear Partners,
We're writing to make you aware of the Colorado Fire on Hwy 140 between Midpines and Briceburg. The fire was initially reported at 1:39 p.m. and is currently estimated at 25 acres. The fire is rapidly growing and threatening structures. There is currently 0% containment. Air attack resources are deployed to assist ground crews. There are evacuations ongoing. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will share updates as they become available.

For visitor and business planning purposes: Highway 140 is currently closed due to fire activity. Highway 41 and Highway 120 remain open and continue to provide access into Yosemite National Park and the greater park area. El Portal is available via those alternate routes. If you have guests or visitors traveling to the region, please direct them to use Highway 41 or Highway 120 as their route of entry until further notice, and encourage them to check current conditions before departing.

We understand this is a fast-moving situation, and conditions can change quickly. Please monitor Watch Duty, Cal Fire, and Mariposa County Office of Emergency Services for the most current information. We'll send updates as soon as we have them.

The Mariposa County Fair returns Labor Day weekend, September 4–7, with four days of classic county fair fun at the Mariposa Fairgrounds.

Enjoy carnival rides and the midway, agricultural events and exhibits, demonstrations, entertainment, rodeo action and the demolition derby. This year’s theme is “Red, White, Blue and Ewe.”
