Get ready! Eastern tiger swallowtails are emerging from their winter chrysalises to greet another spring at the Arboretum!

After the rains clear, it's not uncommon to see multiple individuals congregating around a patch of damp earth in a behavior called "mud-puddling." In addition to water, these butterflies actually gain much-needed salts and other nutrients from the soil that supplement their nectar diet. 🦋
