We want to take a moment to acknowledge the US Forest Service employees who lost their jobs this past week. Many of them are people we've worked alongside for years who we've grown to call friends; some of whom even got their start with BMWF and were fulfilling their dream of working to conserve the place they love. They're hardworking, dedicated folks who are part of the fabric of our Bob community.
All five ranger districts that manage the Bob are facing significant cuts to their recreation and trail crews – the people on the ground who open trails, engage the public, respond to emergencies, manage campgrounds, patrol rivers, and help fight wildfires each summer.
We've been getting lots of questions about what this means for our work, to which we don't have many answers right now. We're exploring options for how we can run the most effective stewardship projects to best support our USFS partners. At this time, over half of our anticipated funding is frozen.
We're optimistic that we'll be able to bring volunteers into the Bob to open trails and preserve habitat this summer. We know our work is more important now than ever to help conserve this special place that belongs to us all.
