brb disappearing into the marsh

if i don’t answer it’s because i’ve been recruited by a heron and now i have responsibilities

weekend plans = getting lost (on purpose) in winding channels, seeing cool wildlife, and pretending emails don’t exist

1. That big claw isn’t for fighting, it’s for flirting😘
Male fiddler crabs wave their oversized claw like a flag to attract females. The bigger and more dramatic the wave, the better their chances.

2. They eat sand… kind of🏖️
Fiddler crabs scoop up sand and sift through it for tiny bits of algae and organic matter. Then they spit out little pellets—those small sand balls you see all over the shore.

3. They build entire underground neighborhoods
Each crab digs its own burrow in the sand, which helps keep them cool, safe from predators, and protected from tides. Whole mudflats can be packed with these tiny tunnels.
