Glacier walk!

It’s too bad the visitors center closes at 5, it’s difficult to do a sea excursion and get to the visitors centers in one day!!

The trails are still open in the land of the midnight sun, though, even after the doors to the visitors center are closed. 🙂.

It was a fun loop trail with ups and downs… and baby moose and tracks and s**t. No bears again… Luke’s really hoping for one!

We’ve been coming into more of the typical Alaska that people report seeing how. We’re staying costal before we board the for our cruise, the sights are different than we experienced up in and down into . The reflection of the mountain into the green pool below was pretty phenomenal and the town of was so so so cute! We boarded the in to see some whales, puffins and otters, but there was an engine fire! And we lost function of one of the engines! They fully refunded the tour, but if we ever come back, we’ll stay a day or two in Seward to experience it more fully, and snag those junior ranger patches, that you earn with their experiment bags.

Arriving into via , it was a loooooong tour. We were delayed by 90 mins, so by the time Andrew made it via uber to the airport to pick up the rental car and loaded everything up, we made it to our next stop, in . This is the resort uses for parts of their Alaska itineraries. It’s lovely. Old school, but lovely. Reminds me of an alpine Greenbrier or Nemacolin.

Enjoying the trip from to on the enjoying some history of the area about the coal and energy options as well as trumpeter swans, Dahl sheep and moose!

The seats are comfortable and recline to help the longer rides. We played some card games and enjoyed some electronic chess with the kids. The gold class offers a full service meal option as well, but the adventure class has a little cafe with some (surprisingly good ingredients) ramen noodle packs, cold sandwiches, drinks and soda, and some locally made borealis popcorn 🙂.

Planes, trains and automobiles!

All aboard the ! From to for our overnight at the .

The staff was wonderful. We board the train again for our end destination of (back to) ! Only one complaint—wish the windows in the viewing car were a bit cleaner to snap those photos of the and we saw along the way!

We were expecting to find the but alas there was just a sour agent working the desk complaining about politics and funding. The kiddos finished their badge for this location (which isn’t a national park but they do have a badge and book program there, hopefully when you visit the staff will be different).

They have an awesome museum here. I’ve added some photos from our time there. The museum
Is worth going to, for sure.

On the bright side—we spoke to a DELIGHTFUL National park ranger from named Hannah who is going to help us with our badge work! That’ll be park #39 for us!

The 3 hour drive, where we “caught air” at least twice on the paved road 😆 from Wrangle St. Elias to the Anchorage airport and had all kinds of weather—from sun to snow and a smidge of rain. Loaded up and headed to Fairbanks.

We’re staying at the and it’s been great. The manager Alex has taken great care of us and the breakfast is included. Airport and train station transfers are included but only until June 1,2026! So we just snuck in on that one! Everyone in our cruise group who are including Fairbanks, they’ll sneak in to have the included transfers too. After June 1, they’ll be directing people to uber/lyft/local taxis.

This morning we picked up a couple sets of Dutch blitz for the trip—as we forgot travel games (you’d think it was our first time). It would have likely gone unnoticed except Luke’s charger head broke off in his iPad, turning that bad boy into a brick. And as many of you know, the kids don’t get much screen time except in airports/airplanes.

So far so good though!

Can’t wait! Happy day!

Two nights at and a trip to with a drive/hike into and the itty bitty town of McCarthy.

The princess lodge was perfect for this stay-the only things it doesn’t have are a swimming pool and an in room safe. There’s trails to hike and beautiful Mountain View’s. A plus for a lot of travelers is they had a ceiling fan with an additional tabletop fan in the room, which I thought was pretty thoughtful (as a lot of travelers are more comfortable sleeping with a fan).

We had breakfast each morning at the sit down restaurant . and we had dinner at the “quick service” dining, .

We saw porcupine, loons, snowshoe hares and two moose! It’s a lot of driving for this portion, but we’ve seen all that we can see 🙂.

Remember that time you went to Alaska and all of your flights were delayed? Naturally your spouse was asleep when the flight delay notification came though but you—you were awake and saw it, which meant you got a whole two hour nap before the 4am alarm went off to head to the airport. It’s times like this that test your plan for travel and sometimes test your faith as well…. We decided a while ago to turn it over to God and go onward with whatever He has planned for us to see in this grand adventure.
Delayed out of CMH by an hour into Seattle, delayed by 90 mins out of Seattle to Anchorage and right on time for our flight to Kotzebue, just as the Lord intended. 🙂.

And then they lost our check bags, but luckily we had a gut feeling something may go sideways so we packed accordingly and the only things in the check bags were things we didn’t absolutely need. PLUS… we got some toiletries from Alaska air, which is great considering the unpopulated area we had arrived into… with just one hotel, The Nullagvik hotel. (Which was clean comfortable and just what we needed.. I’d recommend it to anyone.)
