The White Horse Hill National Game Preserve near Visit Devils Lake, North Dakota, in Travel North Dakota- nature and wildlife viewing at its finest. Hike to the overlook, view the wildlife- yes, pack your binoculars. I had no idea there were bison in the Devils Lake area, and now you and I both know!

With more than 3 miles of designated hiking trails, this preserve is great for exploring. The 4-mile auto tour is free (along with entrance to the preserve), and guess what? You can drive it as many times as you like!

Visit Devils Lake, North Dakota, is known for fishing and lake activities. But did you know there are many other things to see and do in the area? Travel North Dakota has many historic sites that are worth a visit- this one surprised me. It was a visit I'm glad I did, and I believe you should visit, as well. The site gives you insight into the "real" lives of people who lived in this boarding school and everything they had to deal with on a daily basis.

History buffs will appreciate the Fort Totten State Historic Site and a night at the Totten Trail Inn. Book a night at the Totten Trail Inn, and you will be able to stroll the grounds after hours- an experience that many would love to do. After all, how often do you get a night of lodging on the grounds of a state historical site that has been added to the National Register of Historic Places?

After the fort was decommissioned, it was turned over to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, which repurposed the site into a Native American boarding school. The history shared throughout this site is raw and a way of life for many in the early 1900s. Operations at the site ended in 1959, and the site was turned over to the State Historical Society of North Dakota.

🦬 Looking for an unforgettable roadside stop on your next Great Plains road trip? Make sure Jamestown ND in Travel North Dakota is at the very top of your list!

Jamestown is proudly known as the "Buffalo City," and it completely lives up to the name. It's home to the incredible National Buffalo Museum (officially renamed the North American Bison Discovery Center ), where you can dive deep into the history, culture, and conservation of North America’s grandest mammal. 🌾

Here is why you need to stop and stretch your legs here:

📐 Meet "Dakota Thunder": Standing a massive 26 feet tall and weighing 60 tons, this concrete giant holds the title of the World's Largest Buffalo! He has been guarding the prairie since 1959. Located in Frontier Village ND - on the drive to the North American Bison Discovery Center.

👀 The Ultimate Viewing Deck: Walk right up to the observation deck at the museum for a perfect panoramic view of this legendary monument and the surrounding valley.

🌾 See a Real Herd: The museum maintains a live, roaming bison herd on the surrounding pastureland. If you're lucky, you can spot them grazing right from the property!

🎒 Inside the Museum: Discover fascinating interactive exhibits, Native American artifacts, and the crucial story of how the bison was saved from the brink of extinction.

Whether you're a history buff, a lover of quirky roadside Americana, or just want an epic selfie with a 60-ton bison, this stop is pure Midwestern magic. ✨

What a find near Jamestown ND in Travel North Dakota - The Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge did not disappoint. We drove a scenic loop and visited the visitor center. Note: The sign on the road says park headquarters; it does not say visitor center, but it is one.

We were a couple of weeks behind the major migration of birds, but we still saw many. The ducks were the most prevalent. Pack your binoculars and enjoy it all! We loved this attraction, and it's FREE to visit!
