Here’s why!!!👇🏽

- Free wedding package only stays free if you meet the minimum requirements. So don’t assume that it stays free if your guests are not booking through the room block!

- Think that room blocks keeps the whole group together in the resort, it does not! It holds rooms, not a specific spot or building. Your guests can end up in three different buildings and room assignments happen at check-in.

- Treat the resort coordinator like she works for you. She works for the resort and some properties run six weddings in a day. She is amazing - but she can be shared with someone else.

- Budget from the package price alone. In Mexico, 16% tax gets added on top of everything. Then service fees. That $4,000 package is actually closer to $5,000 before a single upgrade.

- Let guests book outside your room block because it looks cheaper on Expedia. That’s the resort selling your unsold rooms at a discount. When your block doesn’t perform, your free package is at risk and you may end up paying more.

After visiting 12 resorts across the Dominican Republic, I came home with a lot of notes.

Some surprises were great! (Like the ability to buy out a whole villa section at Dreams Cap Cana and the beach at Playa Esmeralda!), while others reminded me why choosing a resort based on photos can be risky.

When I visit resorts, I look past the aesthetics. I am evaluating the entire guest experience so I can confidently match my clients with the right fit.

Every bride out there planning a destination wedding feels this way, and trust me I can relate.

Most of the time, we think most on how we can accommodate our loved ones when we are planning our special day. The anxiety of planning something different over everyone else keeps us awake at night.

The key here is giving your guests plenty of notice, sharing information early, and leading with excitement instead of apology.
