Vinton County Convention and Visitors Bureau Part of Ohio's Hocking Hills Region, Vinton County is known for its quiet trails, lakes, and forests.

Vinton County is "Ohio’s last frontier" of Appalachian wilderness. Our scenic beauty, rural location, and plentiful hunting opportunities attract attention from visitors across the state and the country every year. The Vinton County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau (VCCVB) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization that promotes tourism in the county through regional and statewide marketing efforts. The

VCCVB produces a premium-quality biannual visitors guide that is distributed throughout Ohio and neighboring states. The work of the VCCVB is made possible with the support of its tourism partners and by a portion of the lodging tax charged to visitors who stay in local lodging facilities. Any individual, business, or nonprofit organization involved in travel and tourism is invited to approach the VCCVB about volunteer and marketing opportunities.

52nd Annual Appalachian Dirt Riders Little Racoon Classic National Enduro

This event will be taking place this coming weekend.
It will start at the Vinton County Fairgrounds.

PLEASE be alert for motorcycles on our roads!
They will be traveling slow at times looking for turns they must make as part of their course.

What are Enduros?

Enduros are one of the oldest forms of motorcycle competition, and one of the most enjoyable, too.

Typically run across challenging off-road terrain, enduros usually feature multiple difficult “test” sections that are connected together via fire roads, jeep trails or two-track.

Enduro terrain can vary widely from mountain ridges to desert plains to deep wooded valleys, depending on where in the country the ride is located, but one thing is certain everywhere: an enduro is one of the most thrilling and fulfilling forms of off-road competition you can participate in.

Enduro participants follow a marked course, aided by a route sheet that includes mileage, turn and time information to assist with navigation. Timing is everything in enduro racing. Small groups of riders — generally three to five per group — are flagged off at one-minute intervals, and then riders are scored according to when they arrive at pre-set checkpoints along the way.

Traditional enduros penalize riders for arriving early or late to a checkpoint; start-control enduros only penalize riders for arriving late to a check. Scores are collected at each checkpoint and then, once all riders have finished, scores are compiled and results are posted.

The AMA sanctions hundreds of enduros across the country each year, including local-, regional-, and national-level events, the latter organized under the AMA National Enduro Championship Series.

A large tree is down and blocking the trail near mile 6.3. We cleared some of the branches and leaves to make it easier to climb over, but it's a big one! It will take our chain saw guy a few days to get out there and clear it.

While not from Vinton County this video is a good example of what a Bobcat sounds like. Bobcat were native to Vinton County but were absent for years. They are back and their population is increasing.
At times their vocalizations can be similar to a woman screaming.
