Vinton County Convention and Visitors Bureau

Vinton County Convention and Visitors Bureau Part of Ohio's Hocking Hills Region, Vinton County is known for its quiet trails, lakes, and forests.

Vinton County is "Ohio’s last frontier" of Appalachian wilderness. Our scenic beauty, rural location, and plentiful hunting opportunities attract attention from visitors across the state and the country every year. The Vinton County Convention and Visitors’ Bureau (VCCVB) is a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization that promotes tourism in the county through regional and statewide marketing efforts. The

VCCVB produces a premium-quality biannual visitors guide that is distributed throughout Ohio and neighboring states. The work of the VCCVB is made possible with the support of its tourism partners and by a portion of the lodging tax charged to visitors who stay in local lodging facilities. Any individual, business, or nonprofit organization involved in travel and tourism is invited to approach the VCCVB about volunteer and marketing opportunities.

Ken Reed provided us with his monthly update on the Hotel last night at the CVB meeting.
The first image attached is a letter from the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO). It addresses that the Hotel does not meet the criteria for inclusion into the National Register of Historic Places . This means that the project can proceed with no restrictions from their office.
The second attachment are his monthly progress notes. The first section addresses the 2.8 million dollar Amler Grant. Schooley Caldwell, the architecture firm handling the project has been given the go ahead to design the restoration as one large project instead of multiple small ones. The Environmental Assessment required by ODNR needs a little more info. Ken said that this is normal in the process. As soon as that is accepted the CVB can start drawing down the Amler funding for the project.
The 5 Million Dollar CPF Grant: Just waiting for HUD to send out the notices how to access the funds. These funds will be used with the Amler grant to design and construct the restoration work on the Hotel.
The 874 Hundred Thousand Dollar Brownfield Remediation Program: This is the BIG NEWS. The award has been announced on May 14th. Ken will be meeting with Matt Wagner from Tetra Tech (the environmental firm that will be implementing the Brownfield clean up at the Hotel) Today, May 21 to discuss moving forward with the cleanup up. The cleanup has to be completed before any other work can proceed. We hope to see this start soon! This money is being administered by the Vinton County Commissioners.
The 100 Thousand Dollar State Capital Allocation. This has been reappropriated by the State. The CVB now has another 2 full years to use it. This will be to make historical additions to the lobby area. As part of that. If anyone has historical photos from Vinton County that they would like to share with us. We would love to look at them and consider including them in the project. They don't have to be of the hotel.
This has been a long road. Ken is doing a great job managing things. We can't wait to see some work soon!
