Where are my people at?!? We decided to do tour on all the courts in the area within 25 minutes of Deep Creek. Here are the locations and reviews:
Grantsville Park:
Miller St, Grantsville, MD 21536
Multiple courts available for use (4 courts)
Pros:
* There is a regular open play crowd there from 9-11am on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
More likely to meet new friends there!
* There is an amazing coffee shop right across the street called The Travel Mug. Posting bonus shots of the coffee shop since it's super nice inside.
Cons:
* Court surface is not even and a there are a few dead spots.
* Pickleball lines are same color as tennis lines so can be tricky
Veterans Memorial Park:
Mountain Lake Park, MD 21550
Two dedicated Pickleball courts for use
Pros:
* The courts are dedicated to Pickleball
* Seem to be pretty private (probably best to organize your own group in advance)
* There are porta pottys if nature calls
Cons:
* Court surface is asphalt so ball bounces high
* Not all the fence is high, you may need to take a trip down a steep hill to retrieve balls
The Glades Town Park:
10 Spruce Ln, Oakland, MD 21550
There are 3 dedicated courts with quality nets
Pros:
* Beautiful venue with new surface courts and beautiful pond view
* Close to the town of Oakland
* Nice Park with playground and basketball
* Porta potty on site if nature calls
Cons:
* The courts are only fenced on the pond side so be prepared to get your step goal in!
* Courts are located in an open space so seemed a bit windy (need to adjust for that 5th player).
Friendsville Community Park:
Old River Rd, Friendsville, MD 21531
There are 2 dedicated Pickleball courts and 2 additional tennis courts lined for Pickleball with 1 portable net.
Pros:
* The closest Courts to Deep Creek Lake (15 min drive)
* Well fenced
* Clear lines and mostly even surface
* Located in a Beautiful park with playgrounds, Volleyball courts, nice walking path with a stream.
* A really cool Tank at the entrance. Yes, a tank!
* Just around the corner from a delicious cafe The Root Cafe. The coffee is phenomenal with home made syrups and fresh and local food.
Cons:
* There are bathrooms by the courts but they are locked. Not sure when they are unlocked. If there for a random open play then may not have access.
* Some surface cracks
**Someone posted that there are courts in Accident, MD. We did not find it, only dedicated tennis courts. Please correct me if I am wrong!**
