Some dive trips begin with a short boat ride.
Socorro begins with a full day at sea just to get there.

And for the divers who love big ocean adventures, the crossing is SOOO worth it. 🤿

It will most likely be your best dive experience ever!

We leave San José del Cabo, Mexico and head into the Pacific toward the remote Revillagigedo Islands.

Giant mantas, schooling hammerheads, dolphins, sharks and some of the most exciting big-animal diving in Mexico. This is why experienced divers put Socorro on their bucket lists!

And we now have **4 spots open** because of recent cancellations!

I want to be clear about the diving here. Socorro can have strong currents, surge and blue-water dives with very few visual references. The crossing can also be rough.

This is a trip you should have experience for. We require Advanced Open Water, Nitrox and at least 50 logged dives. You should also be comfortable managing your depth, gas and DSMB independently.

We'll be aboard Quino del mar.
October 30–November 8, 2027.

This is a coed Mar Hosted Trips adventure.
Nitrox and the marine park fee are additional.

We travel to see the big things underwater: sharks, rays, turtles and beautiful reefs.

BUT tonight, we’re learning about the ocean life that is too small for us to see while we’re diving 🔬🌊

Daphne Pezij is the creator of the PADI Micro Diver Distinctive Specialty course in Cozumel.

During the course, divers collect samples from the ocean and bring them back to study under a microscope.

Tonight Daphne will share how she created the course, why these tiny organisms matter and what divers can discover when they look at the ocean differently.

Being a great diver and being a great trip leader are two very different things.

Experience underwater matters, of course. But when you’re responsible for a group of people, there’s so much more to it.

It’s about having good judgment, being patient, listening when someone raises a concern, respecting boundaries and knowing when to put someone else’s needs before your own.

A beautiful destination and incredible diving can make a trip memorable. But the people responsible for your experience can make or break it.

At MHT, we believe looking after our guests is just as important as showing them the underwater world.

Because who you travel with matters just as much as where you go. 💗

A tour can be called "local" and still have very little to do with the people who actually live there.

I've been paying more attention to this when planning our MHT trips.

Sometimes an experience takes place in a small community, but the business is owned by someone outside of it. The local people may be doing all the work while receiving only a small part of what visitors pay.

It's important to ask more questions:

Who owns the business? Who is making the decisions? Are local guides and families actually benefiting from the experience?

I would gladly pay a little more for an experience where the people hosting us are fairly compensated and have a say in how tourism happens in their own community.

This is something I'm still learning about as we build new trips. And I want our guests to learn about it too, because these questions are useful even when you're traveling on your own.

I'm curious about your experiences.

Did you know there’s an entire world living in just one drop of seawater? 🔬🌊

We’re so excited to welcome Daphne, marine scientist, dive instructor and creator of the PADI Micro Diver Specialty, to our next Surface Interval Sisterhood chat! 🩵

Daphne created Micro Diver to introduce divers to the incredible world of plankton, the tiny organisms that play a HUGE role in keeping our oceans alive.

Through diving, collecting seawater samples and examining them under a microscope, she’s helping people discover a side of the ocean most of us have never seen!

You have five days away from work. How much diving can you actually fit in?

For Cabo Pulmo, we built the trip around that question.

We have **10 dives over three days**, including two four-tank dive days. On our last dive day, we do two dives and then spend the afternoon hiking and having an outdoor BBQ.

It is short, but you get a lot of diving.

We stay in local bungalows, meals are included, and once we arrive, the week is pretty simple. Dive, eat, rest, spend time together and get ready for the next day.

This is a Medium-level adventure and a good fit for certified divers who are comfortable with full dive days, smaller boats and keeping pace with the group.

I can usually tell pretty quickly when we have a really good local dive guide.

I watch the little things.

Are they actually watching the group? Do they notice when someone is struggling before that diver has to ask for help? When the current changes, are they willing to change the plan? Do they give someone an extra minute to settle instead of rushing everyone down?

And I always notice how they treat the reef. I good divemaster will NEVER touch, destroy or chase.

A local guide knows that water better than I ever will. They know which sites make sense that day, how the conditions normally behave, and when the plan we made yesterday no longer makes sense today.

I respect that knowledge a lot.

When I choose who MHT works with, I am paying attention to all of this. The dive shop can have a beautiful boat and take us to an amazing reef, but the person leading us underwater can completely change the experience.

I want guides who pay attention, make good decisions and care about their own backyard.

You might come for the diving and end up with a camera roll full of marine life, a bunch of new dive buddies, way too many inside jokes and another MHT trip already on your mind.

Terrible consequences, really.
