Today, we mourn the loss of a true Memphis broadcasting legend, Ford Nelson.

Ford Nelson began his musical journey as a piano player for B.B. King before becoming one of the most beloved and respected voices on WDIA. For decades, he impacted generations of listeners, artists, and broadcasters with his voice, wisdom, and presence on the airwaves.

Mr. Nelson passed away last night at the age of 100, just weeks before what would have been his 101st birthday on June 26. His legacy in music, radio, and the Memphis community will never be forgotten.

Please keep the Nelson family, his friends, and the entire WDIA family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Funeral arrangements will be shared once they are confirmed.

Rest peacefully, Ford Nelson. Your voice and legacy will live on forever.
