Have you heard of Canyonland Park — now known as Eberhart Trail? 👀

We recently came across an old photo of Canyonland Park & Zoo and had to go explore what’s left!

🏞️ Though the park is long gone, you can still spot remnants along Eberhart Trail in Little River Canyon National Preserve — concrete chairlift footings, old concession and picnic building ruins, and stone foundations tucked into the woods.

🌄 Back in the 1970s, Millard Weaver opened Canyonland as a unique mix of amusement park and nature destination. It featured carnival rides, mini golf, a campground, a small zoo with exotic animals, live entertainment, and even a miniature train running from a relocated 103-year-old depot.

🚡 But the real showstopper? A 1,500-foot chairlift that carried visitors more than 600 feet down into Little River Canyon to picnic, swim, hike, and fish along the river.
The zoo once housed over 100 animals, and after it closed, local legends claimed some were released into the woods — including rumored big cats. No proof, but the stories still live on! 🐾 See pictures to see who we crossed paths with...
