June weekends will bring the first-ever rosé tasting to five wineries in eastern Lake and western Ashtabula counties. Each of the wineries will present two of its rosés during the tasting, set for 1 to 5 p.m. each Friday, Saturday and Sunday in June, beginning June 6.

Called the Rosé & Roses Wine Trail, playing off the rose being a birth flower of June, the collaboration among Ferrante Winery & Ristorante, Laurello Vineyards, Kosicek Vineyards, M Cellars and Baci Winery will educate tasters about the floral, citrus, savory and even peppery notes in rosé wines produced from pinot noir, syrah, cabernet sauvignon and other red grapes. After picking, the grapes are left in contact with their skins for different lengths of time, which affects the flavors and the depth of pink color in each rosé.

To many, a rosé´is the ideal low-alcohol sipping wine for summer outings, while to others, it pairs beautifully with meals and snacks. Most rosés are best served nicely chilled, although more robust examples may be perfect when barely cooled. Decide for yourself as you taste.

Pay $10 at each winery for the two tastes and food.
