It's that time of year again...
THE FERRY IS OPEN!

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Merrimac Ferry is now open for the 2025 season! The popular ferry shuttles WIS 113 traffic, bicyclists, and pedestrians across the Wisconsin River 24-hours a day, seven days a week, between Okee in Columbia County and Merrimac in Sauk County.

Wisconsin’s only free ferry takes about seven minutes for a single crossing. Last year the ferry made 34,471 crossings carrying a total of 182,904 vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.

According to National Day Calendar it's NATIONAL WALK TO A PARK DAY | October 10

National Walk to a Park Day on October 10th encourages us to walk to our local parks. Feel the wind on your face. Take in the fall weather. Visit with neighbors. Play with your children. And appreciate all the benefits green spaces offer communities.

Well, staying with us, you have a couple park options for walking to and enjoyment purposes! Memorial Park in Merrimac is just a couple houses away and one of the favorites of those staying with us. It has a dock for fishing on Lake Wisconsin, horseshoe pits, shelter and play area for the kids! Come check it out!

NATIONAL HANDBAG DAY
National Handbag Day on October 10 recognizes the versatile and utilitarian bag that goes by many names.

NATIONAL GOLF LOVER'S DAY
National Golf Lover's Day on October 4 provides an opportunity for golf enthusiasts to swing down the fairway at least one more time during the season.


While celebrating the day, you might notice it is sometimes also referred to as National Golf Day. Since 1952, the PGA has held a charity event each year for National Golf Day, which is held on different days each year.

The modern game of golf may have originated in 15th century Scotland. However, it is unclear and very much debated as to its ancient origins.

October in Wisconsin is still looking to be unseasonably warm, which will make for some great golfing. Nearby we have the following courses:

According to National Calendar Day:

Before the Julian and Gregorian calendars, October was the 8th month of the Roman calendar. Octo means eight in Latin. At the time, there were only 10 months. In 700 BC, Numa Pompilius added January and February to the calendar. This change more accurately reflected the length of a year on Earth. As a result, October became the 10th month on the calendar. While other months on the calendar have had days added and subtracted, October has always had 31 days.

NATIONAL BLACK DOG DAY
National Black Dog Day on October 1st encourages the adoption of a dog in the darker shades. Unfortunately, black dogs are less likely to be adopted for no other reason than their coloring. Regardless of behavior, size, breeding, personality, or age, the phenomenon persists.
