Happy New Year! Wanted to share something pretty from someone pretty.

Many years ago my husband & I made a conscious decision to mainly have real artwork hanging on our walls. By “real” I mean either personal photographs, something we made or art from someone we either personally know or maybe don’t personally know, but follow & have admired their work. We are not art snobs. We can’t afford to be, but what I’m saying is, if you visit any of our three homes, the majority of the “stuff” on the walls is personal to us because it came from us or someone close to us.
Just like we prefer to frequent locally-owned restaurants over chain restaurants the majority of the time, we like to help out local artists as well. This beautiful tote bag is from an original painting from JP Myler. She is married to my husband’s cousin. Her ocean painting is also hanging above the bed in the back guest room. (There is a mountain view painting in the bedroom at The Cozy Cabin in Cherry Log, GA & she has a Blue Ridge tote that will also be living at the Cozy Cottage soon.)

If you like what you see, check out jpmylercreative on Instagram or just add a .com to this & that’s her website. She has lots of beach paintings, some cool 90’s rap inspired planners for the new year & more nature-inspired pretties.

Thankfully all is good here in Mexico Beach. We rode out the storm & it didn’t get too bad. Lots of standing water in places & some already-dead palm fronds are scattered about, but no other damage we can determine. The sea is very angry this morning & there’s some washout but nothing major. Hoping everyone is safe.

The outdoor shower was one of the first projects we did when we bought our place. A beach house doesn’t feel like a beach house without an outdoor shower. When using it, please remember to latch & lock the door behind you. Otherwise, it swings open & close in the wind, warping the hinges making it harder to latch & lock each time thereafter. Thanks so much. 🙂

Before heading out of town Sunday, we stopped by the Forgotten Coast Sea Turtle Center in Port St. Joe. We learned lots of cool stuff about sea turtles & got to see some turtles & tortoises they keep on site. Unfortunately, due to space constraints, they do not have any sea turtles, but they do have volunteers who are more than knowledgeable about them. This would be a great way to pass some time on a stormy day.

The first photo is when we bought our home in 2015 & how it remained until the early morning of October 10, 2018.
The 2nd photo is what it looked like when we arrived a few days after the storm. Quite a difference, right?!
But what’s more remarkable is the first photo compared to how our home looks now. Unrecognizable. And in a very good way. 5 years later and better than ever.
