Piata Mediterranean Kitchen at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport is now a Certified Green Restaurant. This recognition comes from the Green Restaurant Association verifying that Areas meets their high standards for sustainability.
This prestigious was earned through key achievements, from using energy-efficient equipment and water-saving technologies to implementing measures that significantly reduce waste and pollution. Piata was also recognized for its vegetarian options, which help conserve natural resources and lower our climate impact.

Congratulations to our team for making this achievement possible and for helping drive our commitment to sustainable practices forward. Building on this success, Areas' goal is to expand the number of Certified Green Restaurants® across our portfolio by the end of this year, so that more of our restaurants can meet the association's rigorous standards. We remain dedicated to offering excellence to our travelers as we continue elevating the airport dining experience across our locations nationwide.

🌍 “Every minute, one million plastic bags are used worldwide, and most are discarded after just one use.”-UN Environment Program.

On International Plastic Bag Free Day, we’re proud to share how Areas USA is reducing single-use plastics in a big way, by starting in the heart of our operations: the kitchen.

🚫 We’ve vastly reduced the number of plastic trash bags used in our kitchens.
✅ Instead, we now use 10-gallon transparent bins to collect food waste, a change that’s driving both sustainability and accountability.

By removing the “out of sight, out of mind” mindset that often comes with traditional trash bags, our teams are more conscious of what gets thrown away. And the impact is clear:

📉 We’ve seen a 30% reduction in food waste since implementing this change.

One small change. A meaningful difference, for our planet, our teams, and our commitment to do better every day.
