A claim can run for months, and most of that time the owner is waiting. What people remember is whether someone kept them informed along the way, right down to telling them when the money was on its way. Thank you Patricia, and thank you Karla for the work behind this one.

When a carrier says the damage is under your deductible, it means their estimate came in below it, so the claim pays nothing. That estimate reflects what their adjuster scoped, and anything left out of the scope is left out of the number. It reads as a verdict. It is an estimate, and estimates can be challenged. In our records several cases started with this answer. Several settled above $1,000,000 once the full damage was documented.

When a carrier sends an adjuster, that adjuster is doing a job for the carrier. It is not a conspiracy, it is an employment relationship, and it is worth understanding before you accept the number it produces. A public adjuster inspects the same damage and writes the same kind of estimate, and is licensed and regulated to do it on your behalf. Same job title. Opposite sides of the table.

The cleanup crew is trying to help. They are also removing your evidence. Before anything gets moved, dried or thrown out, photograph it: wide shots of each affected room, close-ups of the damage, the source if you can see it, standing water before it drains, and a timestamp on everything. Photographs taken before mitigation are worth more than any estimate written afterwards.
