Baroque interior and main altar of the Church of St. Bernardino of Siena in Kraków - Poland. The original church and monastery complex was established on this site in the mid-15th century to serve the first Franciscan Observant friars in Poland. However, that medieval structure was completely destroyed by fire during the catastrophic Swedish invasion—known as the Swedish Deluge—in 1555. The magnificent structure seen today was constructed between 1659 and 1680 under the direction of architect Krzysztof Mieroszewski. Designed as a striking three-nave Baroque temple, its focal point is the lavishly decorated high altar and side altars, which showcase stunningly intricate, gilded, and spiral-columned late-Baroque craftsmanship alongside beautiful stucco decorations.

The Sistine Hall of the Vatican Apostolic Library, one of the most extraordinary library interiors in Rome.

Commissioned by Pope Sixtus V and designed by architect Domenico Fontana between 1587 and 1589, the hall measures about 230 ft (70 m) long and is divided into two naves by six massive piers.

Its frescoes turn the room into a visual history of knowledge: one wall depicts famous libraries of the ancient world, the opposite side illustrates Church councils, while the central pillars include figures associated with the alphabets and languages known at the time.

Today, the Salone Sistino is again used as a reading room, holding roughly 28,000 volumes.
