After undergoing 3 reconstructive surgeries (2 knees & shoulder), along with 3 stress fractures in my low back, a hip and neck injury all lead me to a search for a new form of healing. 20 years of high impact sports training took a toll on my body. As my performance over the years improved and I began competing at an international level, the demands on my body increased. I was loading my body with

thousands of pounds of pressure through rigorous plyometric training, strength and conditioning, and travel and was having a very hard time de-loading all of the stress I was accumulating. Fortunately, the physical therapy center I was attending was highly focused on using alternative methods of rehabilitation in conjunction with regular PT. I was introduced to The Gyrotonic Expansion System in 2008 and it changed my body. I immediately saw an improvement in my physical fitness, injury rehabilitation and prevention and overall performance. I began implementing Gyrotonic & Gyrokinesis training into my weekly program 2-3x/week and it became as vital towards my success as much as nutrition, rest and sport specific training. Once I retired from professional sports in 2012, I immediately submerged myself into the Gyrotonic educational process and am now introducing it onto others if hopes of helping all reach their goals.

Thank you for another opportunity to judge and referee the Winter Festival High Diving events. Although winds climbed above 50km/h all weekend, these brave divers put on a great show. Such courage! It was absolutely amazing to get to see my Diving Canada family. Merci!!

GYROTONIC training this morning☀️
Rid yourself of the same old workout routine and challenge yourself mentally and physically. You will feel confident, invigorated, clear-headed and strong!
These are Level 2 shoulder stand bicycles and overhead circles with 30mins of weight per leg in the pulley strap. My abs were screaming and my hamstrings and glutes were on fire, and loved every minute of it 🙃
Athletes if you’re not training this method, you’re missing out. I used this to decompress my spine and joints the last years of my sports career and it worked wonders.
All exercises can be scaled-down so every level mover can enjoy.

March 11-14, 2022 Irene will be in Miami to teach Level 2 Program 1. She brings a wealth of physical therapy knowledge to her gyrotonic courses and supplements the coursework with lots of options for dealing with injured population.
This course counts as an update towards license recertification.

Today, my friend and teammate is officially back on her feet thanks to all of your donations.

A year ago Meaghan and Alex lost everything in a devastating home fire. We acted immediately and my husband and I were able set up a Go fund me which raised over $40,000 CAN! With this, they were able to buy their new home one year to the day of the fire.

This brings me so much joy, and is exactly what I had hoped for them. It is the proof that people have love and goodness in their hearts. This was my greatest accomplishment of 2021.

GO CANES!
Today was another gorgeous winter day in paradise where I got to bring my daughter to visit the UM pool and dive team, which she loves. I visited my old Orthopedic surgeon Dr. Uribe (Miami’s best- love him and he remembered my surgery almost 20 years later!) and have never felt so grateful and appreciative of everything my University Of Miami experience has given me, and continues to all these years later. I was a hard-working athlete growing up, I sacrificed throughout my teenage years choosing practice over anything, and it was more than worth it.

🍞 Brioche French Toast 🍞

🌟 Since we are getting near the holidays, we wanted to give you a delicious breakfast treat you can prepare for yourself or your family. This is our go-to french toast recipe, and we guarantee it will not disappoint.

Ingredients:
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons butter
4 eggs
1/4 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
8 slices brioche
1/2 cup maple syrup, warmed
Berries (optional)

Recipe:
In a small bowl, combine cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar and set aside briefly.

In a 10-inch or 12-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk together cinnamon mixture, eggs, milk, and vanilla and pour into a shallow container such as a pie plate.

Dip bread in egg mixture. Fry slices until golden brown, then flip to cook the other side. Serve with syrup and top with fresh blueberries and strawberries.

🕺🏼 Do The Twist 🕺🏼

⚡️We know that extension and flexion of the spine (arching and curling) are very important for its health, but what about its ability to twist and turn? This exercise is a great beginner exercise to start to get into the deep pockets of the spines ability to turn. Using our hands as guiding lights, we turn from our center as we slighting grow taller while we turn. This twist-lengthen combo really help to open up all the spaces in our thoracic spine. Try this one of for size next time you sit down at the tower.

🐬 The Dolphin 🐬

⚡️One of the first exercises taught in the hamstring series is the dolphin. Although it is a simple movement, the dolphin may be one of the best bang for your buck exercises. Not only is it a great hamstring mobilizer as you gently unfold your knees at the top of the movement to stretch them, but also a great hip decompressor as you reach your legs long, through the 5th line, at the bottom of the movement. Whenever I’m feeling al little gummed up in my low back and hip joint, this is my go to exercise.

Everyday Mediterranean Salad 🥗 A quick and easy toss together salad that can easily be a side salad or main dish!

1 1/2 cups dry quinoa
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1/2 teaspoon dry basil
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
3 cups arugula
1 15 ounce can garbanzo beans drained
1 small jar roasted red bell peppers, drained and chopped
1/4 cup Kalamata olives, pitted and roughly chopped
1/4 cup feta cheese, crumbled
Fresh basil leaves (optional)

Cook the quinoa according to package directions with 1/2 teaspoon salt added to the water. Let it cool completely. To create the dressing, whisk together the olive oil, balsamic vinegar, pressed garlic, basil and thyme until well combined. Season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper and set aside.

To a large serving bowl, mix the quinoa, arugula, garbanzo beans, roasted red peppers, Kalamata olives, and feta cheese. Drizzle with the dressing and garnish with basil. Season to taste. Serve at room temperature.
