This is a rare find. A written list of the 1897 Mifflin Co. PA Amish rules. The ordinung changes according to district.

Rules of an Amish Church (1897) ~

I've always found this one fascinating. Amish church rules usually aren't written down.

But in this case they were. Found in a book called Amish Roots: A Treasury of History, Wisdom, and Lore, edited by John A. Hostetler.

These were some of the rules in Mifflin County, PA near the turn of the 20th century:

~For The Women~
Do not make the caps so small, but keep them large enough to cover the ears. And do not make bonnets so small.
Do not make such broad pleats in the dresses or such broad hems.
Do not comb your hair high on the head.
Do not wear jewelry for pride.
Do not use lace around the skirts.
Do not hang framed pictures...

This is always one of my favorite gardens. One of Katie’s favorite colors is lavender so it usually shows up in thier garden 💜

The Quilt Gardens officially open May 30, but around here you know summer is getting close when delivery day arrives.

This year the Quilt Garden at Dutch Country Market will feature the “Dutchman’s Puzzle” pattern, and we’re excited to see it come to life over the next few weeks.

Flowers start showing up, garden beds come to life, and before long the Quilt Garden trail across Michiana is in full bloom again.

It’s one of our favorite signs of the season.
