The Middlesex County America 250 Parade will be held in Middletown on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. The community is invited to celebrate our history, traditions, and cultural legacy in a family-friendly event on Labor Day. This event will bring people together from throughout Middlesex County and beyond to continue to celebrate America’s Semiquincentennial. The parade will start 10:00am in Middletown’s North End (near Spring Street & Rome Avenue), proceeding south along Main Street, and will end at Middletown’s South Green (Union Park).

The parade steps off at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to last approximately one hour. Mayor Gene Nocera of Middletown and First Selectman Michael Pelton of Portland will give remarks at the South Green at the conclusion of the parade, with presentation of the Mayor’s Award.

The community is invited to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy at the South Green after the parade. Food trucks will be parked at the South Green with refreshments available for purchase. Support local businesses and enjoy a community picnic after the parade as we continue to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. Please join us to make this day memorable!

The Middletown–Portland America 250 Committee is a collaboration of The City of Middletown and the Town of Portland. The committee organized Semiquincentennial events commemorating America’s 250th anniversary, honoring Middlesex County, and highlighting the shared cross-river history of the City of Middletown and the Town of Portland, anchored by the timeless Connecticut River and symbolized by the iconic Arrigoni Bridge.

Named after the Italian word for "pasta maker," Pastaio is more than just a restaurant name. It reflects an old-world craft that comes to life daily through fresh, house-made pasta prepared right in the heart of Middletown. Led by Head Chef Jimi Brahimi, Pastaio was created to be equally welcoming for a casual weeknight dinner or a long Saturday meal with family and friends. With fresh pasta rolled daily, an approachable Italian-focused wine list, and a thoughtful bar program, Pastaio combines an upscale dining experience with a warm, inviting atmosphere.

🇺🇸❤️ Paulie’s Push is Coming Through Middlesex County! ❤️🇺🇸

From August 27-29, communities across Middlesex County will have the opportunity to be part of something truly meaningful.

Retired United Airlines flight attendant Paul Veneto is once again hitting the road with his iconic airline beverage cart as part of Paulie’s Push, a powerful journey honoring the victims, families, survivors, and heroes of September 11, 2001. Over the past several years, Paulie has retraced the paths of the four hijacked flights, pushing the cart hundreds of miles to ensure the stories and lessons of 9/11 are never forgotten.

This year marks the final leg of an incredible mission. By the time Paulie reaches Ground Zero on September 11, 2026, the cart will have traveled more than 1,000 miles. Along the way, community members are invited to walk beside him and even help push one of four beverage carts, each representing a different flight from that day.

📍 Middlesex County Route (Tentative):
• August 27: East Hampton
• August 28: Cobalt, Middle Haddam & Portland (Community Stop and Overnight Stay in Portland)
• August 29: Middletown (including a celebration of Paulie’s 911th Mile) and Durham (Overnight Stay)

This final push is truly Everyone’s Push, and we encourage our communities to come out, show their support, and join Paulie for a few steps along this unforgettable journey of remembrance, resilience, and unity.

☕🤖 Last week, we were excited to celebrate the ribbon cutting of Bot & Brew, located at 328 Main Street in Cromwell!

Bot & Brew is the first coffee shop of its kind in Connecticut, featuring a robot barista named Janice. One of fewer than 40 robot baristas in the United States, Janice is part of a small and innovative group of automated coffee makers, most commonly found on the West Coast. Curious about how it works? Janice is monitored remotely through cameras and can receive software updates and technical support directly from her team whenever needed.

While Janice handles the specialty coffee creations, Bot & Brew also has a friendly team member on-site to assist customers with food orders and fresh drip coffee, creating a unique blend of technology and personal service.

Congratulations to Crystal Sosa and Kyle on bringing this innovative concept to Cromwell! We are thrilled to welcome this one-of-a-kind business to our community and can't wait to see what's brewing next. 🎉☕
