Local is more than a trend here. It is hand-harvested vegetables, cheese crafted from the milk of family-owned dairy farms, the sheen of handmade furniture, quilts sewn with careful stitches, fresh-baked pies and cookies, small-town festivals and benefit auctions, handshakes and hugs. Sharing our legacy with you is a privilege. Here, we still rise with the sun and greet the changing seasons. We re

member the wisdom of our parents while discovering new lessons to convey to our children. Visitors may come with a vague idea of Amish Country Ohio, but they leave with memories of a lifestyle and experiences of a lifetime. You’ll leave a little richer than when you came. It is an experience handcrafted and heartfelt.

IMPORTANT INFO:
If you are planning to travel to the Walnut Creek area over the next couple of months, please be aware that construction has begun on two road improvement projects.

The first project is taking place on State Route 515 in downtown Walnut Creek. A portion of 515 in front of the main Der Dutchman Restaurant parking lot is closed, but all businesses in Walnut Creek are open. Watch for posted signs to direct you to the properties and parking for Der Dutchman Restaurant and Carlisle Gifts of Walnut Creek. Both can be accessed from Olde Pump Street.

Carlisle Inn of Walnut Creek and Coblentz Chocolates can still be accessed from the State Route 39 end of 515.

The second project involves resurfacing work on State Route 515 between Walnut Creek and Winesburg. SR 515 will be closed to non-local traffic from Walnut Street in Walnut Creek to US Route 62 at Winesburg for 75 days. The posted detour will follow Routes 62 and 39, or you can take the scenic route and bypass traffic by turning onto County Road 77, east of Berlin.

Businesses along State Route 515, including Yoder's Amish Home, Trail Battery & Solar, and Timbercrest Camp and RV Park, are all open for business during the construction period.

Driving along the winding roads in Ohio Amish Country, you may stumble upon one of the cutest towns in the area. Winesburg, Ohio, is a small village on the northern side of our region, founded in 1832 as a direct route from Canton to Millersburg.

Slow down and take in the charm of this community, where old stone buildings and small brick walkways leave visitors longing for simpler days in America. Historical character is just the beginning of what’s in store here. Residents and business owners take immense pride in their village, which is evident in the care and placement of everything in town. The first businesses included pottery, tannery, harness, gunsmith, cooper, and saddle shops. Small factories produced brooms, baskets, bologna, boots, shoes, ci**rs, and mattresses. The town also had two hotels as well as dry goods, grocery, and hardware stores. Looking up and down the village streets, it can be hard to imagine how all those businesses were established, but look closely, and you can see the past peeking through.
