Tomorrow is the day we can start applying for the moose lottery. This is Scott and his son Garrett from last year. They waited a long time to draw their tag, and were paired up with Jordan Grady when they arrived. Their hunt came down to the last day! I don’t want to tell their story for them, so here is an email I received from Scott.
Jerod,
I can say that the 2025 Moose Hunt with Big Mountain Outfitters was one of the top 5 experiences including my wedding day and my kids' births. It is hard to describe in words the total experience. From the years of applying for a permit, to the months of preparation, each day's encounters, the shared meals in camp and all of the moose meals that we will be sharing over the next year, it was really the experience of a lifetime.
Initially, when I hired Big Mountain Outfitters I thought the price was high, but after the experience, it was so worth it. Thank you for responding to my initial inquiry so expediently. Big Mountain Outfitters ran a very clean, professional, and top-notch camp. The accommodations were great and the food was outstanding, especially the poppers!. We really did not "want" for anything while we were in camp. There is really nothing I would change. The only consideration is, I wish we could have documented more of our experience and in the future would pay to have or bring a videographer along. I understand that it could be cumbersome and complicate things. I keep replaying that morning's hunt in my mind, but having had video of it would be really awesome.
Jordan's guidance was professional at a high level and with a personal touch. We really felt like a team that bonded as we spent more time together. He has a great depth of knowledge of moose behavior and habitat, how to hunt and how to be prepared. He was very persistent and determined to successfully guide us to a moose harvest. His scouting and preparation was evident as he was able to put us on 5 bulls before 10AM on the first morning. We were able to see over 45 moose with several close encounters and with over 1/2 dozen potential opportunities for a harvest. If we were to draw another permit in the future we would select Jordan as our first choice.
When I tell the story (and I have told it many times already) one of the things most people remark about is how the whole team at camp helped to quarter it up and have it out of the field so quickly after the harvest. With most of the camp showing up to quarter up the moose, it was like hiring a small army to help. The teamwork from Jordan, Byam, and Will helping set up the hunt, and tracking it once down, to you and Gavin and others from camp coming to help hike it out, was amazing. To pick it up from the butcher less than 30 hours after the shot just blows me away.
I would recommend Big Mountain Outfitters to anyone, resident or non-resident.
