One of the great things about a night like tonight was the clear weather and a relatively dark sky with limited light pollution. Not only can you see Mars looking red just over and to the left of the moon if you look out now, but in this picture of the Antares taken about 50 seconds after launch the two faint objects in the upper left are Jupiter (the bigger and brighter one) and Saturn. Clicking on the photo will make them easier to see.

Sorry its been so long since I last posted and welcome to the many folks who have recently joined. I have had a few things come up that have distracted me from tracking down what is not always obvious to see here on Delmarva and unique to it.

Tonight if you are here look toward Chincoteague Island, as Wallops Space Center will be sending a Cygnus Space Capsule to the International Space Station, and you folks have front row seats.

The weather here is perfect for a launch and they say the third try is the cure, so here's hoping you'll get to see this. More about some of our more hidden treasurers soon.

If you are anywhere in the mid-Atlantic and your weather is like ours you have a good chance of seeing this launch. More at this website. https://www.space.com/nasa-cargo-cygnus-antares-launch-ng-14-viewing-guide

The C&D Canal has been an economic engine for the bay region for the better part of two centuries. Recently a friend Mary McCarty shared a link to an article about its history which I am pleased to share with all of you. The photos attached are from a number of crossings between the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays. https://chesapeakebaymagazine.com/a-brief-history-of-the-cd-canal/

One of the more unique aspects of living on Delmarva, is our hidden spaceport. But if the weather is good and you look toward Chincoteague Island it won't be hidden on Feb9 around 5:39 PM.

An Antares rocket is launch from Wallops Island, Virginia at 5:39 p.m. ET on Sunday, Feb. 9. Will you be watching?

Check out our guide for in-person viewing and live streaming the launch online: https://go.nasa.gov/2uQaX0b.

Its often hard to remember we have a spaceport in our backyards. Novemeber 2nd a mulitstage orbital launch may leave Wallops for the space station. To learn more like Wallops on Facebook.

November 2 will provide the opportunity to view a day launch of Northrop Grumman’s Antares rocket launch from the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility.

Developers in Sussex County must now build cluster subdivisions with a "superior design." Here's what that means for developers and future residents.

Unlike the barrier Islands of the mid shore or our beaches the lower shore remained more as it had been. As a result you can see a more natural setting.

The Nature Conservancy's Brownsville Preserve is just such a place. In a relatively short walk you can see a number of different habitats, and also how successful nature is at reasserting itself.

Much of the Preserve was farmed but since the land was donated to the Conservancy with some gentle tending you can see how a field returns to forest, a former cattle pond becomes a rest stop for migrating and local wildlife. Even see a beach front that is not white sand with bathers on it.

So today we went to Chincoteague to watch a rocket launch from Wallops Island. We had a great time and while my camera work was less than brilliant, it was too hard to not watch rather than fiddle with the camera so I did and this video is a mix of a little live action and some stills.
