Important and scary subject. Come listen and breakfast is on us!
Guests welcome! January is recognized nationally as Human Trafficking Awareness month, and to help us elevate our knowledge of this terrible crime against humanity and understand the impact and initiatives in place in Ulster County, our guest speakers on Wednesday, January 31 at 7:10 AM at Frida's Cafe & Bakery in Milton will be Stephanie Kelly, MA, Crime Victims Counselor and Educator/Safe Harbour Coordinator at the Ulster County Crime Victims Assistance Program, and Jessica Jones, Senior Crime Victims Counselor and Educator.
The duo will speak about Ulster County's Safe Harbour Program, which offers supportive and rehabilitative services to youth who have been trafficked or are at risk of being trafficked, as well as give a picture of the county's efforts to combat it. Learn the indicators of both s*x and labor trafficking and what to do should you suspect someone may be in danger. Get important facts so you can use your voice to build awareness.
Ulster County Safe Harbour Program is a part of Ulster County Crime Victims Assistance Program. The counselors seek to raise public awareness and educate human services and law enforcement professionals about the exploitation and trafficking of youth for both s*x and labor. The counselor/educators also bring programs into the local schools educating students about healthy relationships, cyber-safety, and human trafficking risk. Our ultimate goal is to identify, respond to, and empower at-risk and trafficked youth with trauma-informed rehabilitative services including food, clothing, shelter, medical care, crisis intervention, educational and vocational counseling, and legal services.
