It’s a family affair! Captain Robert and First Officer Maya made history yesterday morning by co-piloting a commercial passenger flight from New York to Los Angeles together. Maya grew up watching her father look pristine in his pilot uniform and spent her childhood practicing on flight simulator programs under his expert guidance. After completing her rigorous commercial aviation training at the top of her class, she joined the very same airline as her father last year. Passengers on board cheered loudly over the intercom when the captain introduced his daughter as the co-pilot. How proud must this father be of his daughter?

Now this is how you kick off a celebration!

Back in 2021, United Airlines Flight 1258 celebrated Juneteenth with an all-Black flight staff, from the pilots and flight attendants to the gate agents.

The special flight included a speech from Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, a saxophone performance from pilot Sal Crocker, and a water cannon salute before takeoff.
