The slave who became a hero of Old Cairo...come with me to Tekyit Khan Khatun, a café and restaurant tucked away in a beautiful old courtyard surrounded by buildings that are hundreds of years old. Over sh**ha and Egyptian tea, we examine the fascinating history of the area and one particular house: Beit Zainab Khatoon.
From her life as an enslaved woman to her role in resisting the French occupation, we uncover the remarkable story behind one of just many lesser-known historic houses of Islamic Cairo.
