Did you know that pink river dolphins live in the Amazon?

Known for their intelligence and playful behavior, these freshwater dolphins are unlike any others on Earth. Unlike ocean dolphins, they can turn their heads side to side, thanks to unfused neck vertebrae, which helps them navigate the tangled waterways.

As for their color? Some are born gray and turn pink over time, especially males. The pink hue can come from scar tissue (from play or fighting), capillaries close to the surface, and even sun exposure. No two look exactly the same.

Travelers exploring the Amazon by boat often catch glimpses of them surfacing in the early morning or late afternoon.

From spotting monkeys at dawn in the Amazon to snorkeling with manta rays, sea turtles, and hammerheads in the Galapagos, this custom Ecuador adventure was packed with wildlife and wonder.

Heather and her family explored the Amazon, Ecuador, and the Galapagos Islands on a two-week journey with Knowmad. Highlights included seeing 18 macaws, watching caiman rest beneath a glass floor, and swimming with penguins and sea lions.

Patagonia takes center stage in The Americas, a docuseries narrated by Tom Hanks.

Episode 10 is full of dramatic wildlife scenes: pumas chasing guanacos, penguins sprinting from sea lions, and the towering peaks of the Andes in the background. It’s definitely worth a watch.
