We were kind of distracted by local news over the weekend, but in Salt Lake City there was a serious incident at one of the "No Kings" protests.
According to news reports and videos posted on social media, an individual in the crowd was seen deploying a rifle. An armed volunteer "peacekeeper" fired three shots, wounding the subject but also hitting and killing an innocent bystander.
The subject attempted to blend in with other demonstrators, but someone in the crowd noticed the rifle in his backpack and disarmed him. He was immediately arrested by police who were already on the scene.
We continually hear folks who carry guns discussing about how they would react to an active killer scenario. This particular example really puts into perspective of how chaotic these events can be.
For goodness sake, if you're going to carry a gun, get some training and develop proficiency.
You have to be able to hit what you're shooting at, and you need to know your target and what's around it - that includes foreground (what's between you and the target), what's behind it (what you will hit if you miss) and the environment (people who may move into your line of fire).
This is YOUR responsibility.
