The concept behind the Cinderella Fountain in Magic Kingdom is a clever piece of Disney Imagineering known as a forced-perspective visual illusion.
The fountain features a bronze statue of Cinderella seated with her animal friends. Behind her is a decorative mural containing a painted crown. The mural and statue were intentionally designed so that when viewed from a lower angle—roughly a child’s eye level or when kneeling near the fountain—the crown lines up perfectly above Cinderella’s head, making it appear that she is being crowned as a princess.
If you’re visiting, try bending down or looking from a child’s height—the crown effect becomes much more obvious and makes for one of the park’s classic hidden details.
