It's a particularly hot day, density altitude is high, and you need to land on a 2,000-foot runway with a 20-knot crosswind to pick up river rafters.⁠
⁠
When pilots come to us with tailwheel time, it tells us that they are not only prepared for backcountry landings, but that they understand landing and the elements associated with it at its core. We've noticed that pilots with tailwheel time approach our training with the utmost confidence and security, and don't bat an eye when it comes time for backcountry Kodiak training and low-altitude canyon flying.⁠
