“Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes…” and this weekend, we had a whole lot of both in downtown Mobile!

Our Savor the Son of a Sailor Food Tour was completely sold out as Jimmy Buffett fans came to town for the opening of the new exhibit at the Maritime Museum and the Son of a Sailor Fest downtown. We ate, drank, shared stories, and celebrated the Mobile roots behind so much of Jimmy’s music.

It was one unforgettable weekend with an incredible group of guests. We have just one more weekend left to celebrate Jimmy with us before Savor the Son of a Sailor disappears, so grab your tickets before the last weekend is gone. Fins up!

Mobile just unveiled a statue of Jimmy Buffett looking out over the Mobile River. From that spot, you can see three generations of his family's story.

We got an early look at the new Son of a Son of a Sailor Experience at the Maritime Museum of the Gulf, a permanent exhibit filled with Jimmy's music, memories, and lots of Mobile roots.

The exhibit is open to the public today, along with our Savor the Son of a Sailor Food Tour. Come celebrate Jimmy Buffett and the Mobile stories that go way beyond the music!

This is not just any cocktail - it’s The Parrot, a sweet, creamy drink served at The Admiral on our Savor the Son of a Sailor Tour!

But the best part isn’t just what’s in the glass. It’s where you drink it. The Parrot is served in the very room where Jimmy Buffett began his rise to fame, playing music right here in Mobile. You can sit in the same space, raise a glass, and imagine the early days before the songs, the concerts, and the island lifestyle.

It’s one of those stops that makes this tour so special: great food, a delicious drink, and a little piece of Jimmy’s story in every taste along the way!

The man Cadillac is named for lived right here in Mobile.

A marker still stands at the home site of former French governor Antoine de la Mothe Cadillac, but he wasn’t exactly well-liked during his time in Mobile. One place still honors him and his connection to the city - Squid Ink.

Hear the surprising Mobile connection to Cadillac on this week’s Mobile Minute!

Last night, we welcomed a group of CPAs from school systems all over Mississippi who were in Mobile for work and had some extra time to explore the city. A food tour was exactly what they were looking for!

They made a point to take a picture at the entrance of every restaurant we visited, so we’re sharing their Mobile food tour one stop at a time. We had a great evening showing them some of our favorite places downtown and giving them a taste of the city along the way!

Jimmy Buffett’s Mobile story started long before the island lifestyle and the famous cheeseburgers. It started at home, around his family’s Sunday dinner table.

J.D. Buffett was a blue-collar worker here in Mobile, but on Sundays, he had a different job: frying chicken for his family. That simple meal of crispy chicken and potato salad became part of the Buffett family’s Sunday tradition as Jimmy was growing up in Mobile.

Today, we serve that same kind of comfort on our Savor the Son of a Sailor Food Tour at Chicken District inside Insider Food Hall. It’s a lot more than just another stop on the tour - it’s a taste of the Sunday dinners and Mobile memories that helped shape Jimmy Buffett!

What a weekend! We hosted our very first Savor the Son of a Sailor Food Tour with a group of diehard Jimmy Buffett fans, and it was everything we hoped it would be.

We walked through the downtown Mobile that helped make Jimmy who he was, sharing stories about his childhood, his music, and the places and flavors that stayed with him. Of course, we had the original Cheeseburger in Paradise at Squid Ink Eats & Drinks, right in front of that perfect mural!

The food, drinks, stories, and our guests made this first tour one we won’t forget. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate Jimmy and the Mobile roots behind so many of his songs. You have three more weeks to join us on this one!

The oldest written recipe for jambalaya in America was published in downtown Mobile. 1878, the Gulf City Cook Book, page 57: “Jam Bolaya.” Chicken giblets, Gulf oysters, tomatoes, and rice.

This is the story of Mobile’s incredible connection to one of the most famous dishes on the Gulf Coast - jambalaya.
