It's FOODIE FRIDAY, and my plans for this post went by the wayside.
What you see below is not hush puppies, it's not fritters, it's BITTERBALLEN.
Yeah, what a name...but there's nothing bitter about it. I found this in Amsterdam, and these are served everywhere as a snack/appetizer. It's a STEW that's formed into meatballs and deep fried, and served with a mustard sauce. It's piping hot, unlike anything you've ever had, and absolutely delicious.
Delicious enough that I thought I would try to make these...and today's post was going to be about my effort to do this. However, upon actually READING the recipe tonight, I found that you have to make it a day prior so it chills enough to form meatballs suitable for frying.
Oops.
So today's post is just to let you KNOW about a great dish IF you ever go to Amsterdam. Eventually I'll let you know how the homemade version is...or if you are best off going to Amsterdam to try it. (I'm thinking the latter...)
Have you found a recipe for a dish you found during your travels? Were you successful? What was it??
