The story of our Silver Acorn began with my longtime dream of owning an old Airstream. While shaking his head, Joe complied with his crazy wife’s idea. It turned into a crazy (but fun) amount of work. In the end, we so enjoyed meeting our wonderful guests. Some will remain friends for a long time. I love stories with happy endings and the airstream is one. You see, two of our guests, Agustina and Miguel, became engaged under our old oak tree. They also bought the Silver Acorn! This beautiful couple live and work in D.C. and we will store it for them until they find a piece of property near the mountains for it. We will remain friends as we consult on their project and share their upcoming joys!

Happy New Year to all our wonderful facebook followers of the Old Oak Mountain Refuge and the Silver Acorn. 2019 will have major changes for us as we made the very difficult decision to sell our beautiful property. Our decision was born from a major ice storm we had late last year. We decided it was time to move to an easier lifestyle and thus are purchasing 40 beautiful acres and home close to Staunton. The purchaser (caretaker) of OOMR is amazing and we could not be happier with her love of the place.

Thank you for sharing our love of this mountain. One of the many bittersweet aspects of this decision in that we are going to sell the airstream as we won’t have a need for it. It has been such a fun project bringing her back to life. Should you know anyone interested in buying her, please let me know.

More doggie guests! They brought their human, David, to the mountain🐾. Milo is a St Bernard and choose to wear his blaze orange and Gary is an English Shepherd (and almost a twin of our Frick)! Milo, Gary and David fought the traffic from Arlington for some crisp mountain air.

What a great Thanksgiving weekend we had! We hosted a guest Wednesday and Thursday night AND OOMR was a location for a movie on Saturday! The weather didn’t cooperate for a full day of shooting so they will have to come back to shoot the scenes in the airstream. The movie is a horror/science fiction genre. We will keep you posted with more information and when it hits the big screen😎

Sweet Kermit, usually a beach doggie, enjoyed his October days on the mountain and romping with Ramsey. Ramsey (right) lives across the road and has become the official greeter! Kermit is a goldendoodle who was visiting with his Mom Alison and her friend Tiffany. Tiffany restored a sweet 1966 Decamp trailer and rents on Airbnb in Virginia Beach. Check it out on FB as The Bunny Box! So cute!!
