Humpback whales are known for a wide variety of surface behaviors, from tail slapping, pectoral fin slapping and even breaching. Our trips on 4/26 were lucky to see all of these surface behaviors!

We see Humpback whales regularly. We see Dolphins quite often too. Sometimes we see Whales and Dolphins together! Like these feeding Humpbacks and Pacific White-sided Dolphins seen earlier this week!

We’re still seeing LOTS of Velella Velellas. Also known as By-the-wind sailors, they are free floating, colonial Hydrozoans that use a triangular sail to catch the wind and propel themselves across the ocean’s surface. 4/4/25

Some nice looks at some Harbor Porpoise and a few Velella Velellas too! The Harbor Porpoise is the smallest of the cetaceans in Monterey Bay. They’re often quite elusive as far as photo opportunities go. 4/4/25
