Backyard Foraging Classes, Saturday, September 26, at Emerald Mountain Sanctuary in Monterey.

Discover the abundance of edible and medicinal plants that grow in the lush bio-diverse region of the Virginia Western Highlands during a full-day classes are held from 10 am – 4 pm . Please note this class on September 26 replaces the October 10 class.

📣 Exciting News from the Highland Historical Society! 📣

We are pleased to announce that LeAnna Armstrong has stepped into the role of Executive Director of the Highland Historical Society!

LeAnna is excited to build upon the wonderful work already being done by the Society while finding new ways to preserve, share, and celebrate the stories that make Highland County such a special place. She looks forward to working with our members, volunteers, and the community to preserve Highland’s history and keep it alive for future generations.

As we welcome LeAnna into this role, we also want to express our heartfelt appreciation to Lori Botkin for her dedicated leadership and service as Director. Lori’s knowledge, passion, and commitment to preserving Highland County’s history have made a lasting impact on the Society and our museums.

And thankfully, Lori isn’t going far! ❤️ She will continue to play a vital role with the Historical Society, lending her knowledge and talents to museum curation and preservation, while enjoying more well-deserved time with her family. We are deeply grateful for everything she has done — and everything she continues to do.

Transitions like this remind us that preserving history is truly a community effort — one generation of caretakers building upon the work of those who came before.

We’re excited for what’s ahead and fortunate to have such a wonderful community alongside us as we begin the next chapter of the Highland Historical Society! 🏛️❤️
