Last month when I was in Zimbabwe, I got to experience the incredible Dove's Nest at The Hide, Zimbabwe Safari Lodge with my sister!

We had such an incredible night with just the two of us alone with the stars and the animals in the bush!

Usually we recommend this experience for couples, but after going with my sister, I can confidently say that it's great for all bonding experiences!

Missing the Victoria Falls and Zambezi River energy more than words can say.

Last November our Wander group stood at the edge of Victoria Falls and felt the mist on their faces and the rumble beneath their feet — and not one of them will ever forget it. We are already counting down the sleeps until we do it all over again with a new group this November.

If you want to join a trip with us, we still have a few spaces available for our March 2027 small group gorilla trekking journey through Uganda and Rwanda! Check out our website to learn more!

And if Victoria Falls is calling your name, follow our social channels and subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to know when we add dates to our next Wander trip!

As amazing as the famous parks are, they're often not what we recommend for the majority of our clients.

We love sending our clients to lesser known parks and to private conservancies for both spectacular game, and a more intimate overall experience.

For example, when we plan a Great Migration safari, we recommend our clients to stay at lodges which operate on a private conservancy, so they can still have the incredible experience of witnessing the scale of the migration, but so they can escape to the far less crowded private conservancy to end their day.

Have you ever wondered why gorilla silverbacks are called that?

Well, male gorillas are born with dark black coats, earning them the name blackbacks in their younger years. As they mature — typically around 12 years old — the hair across their back and hips begins to turn a distinctive silver gray. That transformation marks more than age, it signals dominance, experience, and the full weight of leadership. A silverback is the protector, the decision maker, the undisputed center of his family group, and every member of the troop moves in relation to him.

Which brings us to something we are incredibly excited about.

In March 2027, our founder Sandy will lead a small group of twelve travelers through Uganda and Rwanda on our next Wander journey, and gorilla trekking is at the heart of it.

Link in bio to learn more and get on Sandy's list before it fills up, do you want to go gorilla trekking?

There is nothing quite like a spa day to wash off the travel day, and Amy has officially decided this is a non-negotiable.

On her first morning in Nairobi, Amy treated herself to the "Traveler's Reset" at Hemingways: a 2.5 hour experience of body scrub, massage, and facial that she described to us as pure bliss. She ended it with a cup of hibiscus tea and dried fruits, under what might be the prettiest ceiling light in all of Nairobi.

Safe to say the jet lag didn't stand a chance.

Amy is officially declaring the arrival spa day a mandatory part of every future trip. And honestly, we think she's onto something.

Which Moroccan city is calling to you? 🇲🇦✨

Watch to find out which Moroccan city matches your travel personality, and drop your result in the comments below. We want to know if we have a city full of Marrakechians, Chefchaouenis, or Fes devotees in our audience.

And if your result has you suddenly very curious about actually going well, that's exactly what we're here for. Morocco is now officially part of what we design at Hills of Africa, and we could not be more excited about it.

A few days ago we celebrated World Travel Advisor Day. And then a day later we celebrated something even more important, at least to us.

May 7th is a very big day in the Hills of Africa family.

It is the birthday of our founder, Sandy, who grew up in Zimbabwe, and who has spent over 25 years making sure her clients experience the continent she loves the way it deserves to be experienced.

It is also the birthday of Sam — another familiar face of Hills of Africa who shares this day with Sandy in the most wonderful coincidence.

And if that weren't enough, Sandy's mum, whose beautiful face you see in that first photo, also came into the world on May 7th, as did Sandy's nephew.

May 7th, it seems, has a type. 🌍❤️

From all of us at Hills of Africa, happy (slightly belated) birthday to Sandy, Sam, and the whole May 7th crew. Thank you for making this place what it is. We hope this day is as extraordinary as the trips you design for everyone else.

Zimbabwe clearly produces remarkable people, and apparently schedules them all on the same day. 🇿🇼🎂

Happy World Travel Advisor Day!!!

In a world where anyone can spend three hours on the internet convincing themselves they've planned a trip, the travel advisor is still the person you call when it actually matters. When you want the trip to be right, not just researched. When you want someone who has been there, who knows the operator by name, who will pick up the phone if something goes wrong at 11pm on a Tuesday in Botswana.

At Hills of Africa, we are lucky enough to do this work every single day. Designing trips to one of the most extraordinary places on earth for people who trust us with their most precious resource: their time.

To every travel advisor out there doing the same — happy World Travel Advisor Day. The work you do changes people's lives, even when they don't realize it yet.

And to our clients, thank you for trusting us. There is no greater compliment
