What is a unique experience or activity that travelers often overlook?

Sandy: "Many properties have activities that you can participate in, and some activites are extremely unique to that area. One of my favorites is the Rhino conservation at Tintswalo Safari Lodge. Rhino conservation includes but is not limited to de-horning, collaring, and ear notching the rhinos to protect them from being a target for poachers.

The poaching crisis in Africa is driven by an ever-increasing demand for rhino horn. South Africa has by far the largest population of rhinos in the world and is an incredibly important country for rhino conservation.

To combat the unprecedented rhino poaching crisis in Southern Africa, Tintswalo Safari Lodge aims to raise awareness about the poaching epidemic and provide funding and support for a variety of urgently needed anti-poaching interventions in the Manyeleti Nature Reserve, Greater Kruger National Park and the South African Wildlife College (SAWC)."

World Elephant Day 🐘!!!!!\
Today, we celebrate one of Africa’s most iconic species, the elephant, and renew our commitment to protecting their future.

From the wide plains of Kenya to the floodplains of Botswana, these gentle giants play a vital role in their ecosystems. But they’re under threat from poaching, habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict and human interference.

At Hills of Africa, we support conservation-first partners who put elephants (and all wildlife) first, because elephants being wild is a privilege we must protect for generations to come.

This , we’re honoring the kings and queens of Africa by celebrating their beauty and acknowledging their vulnerability.

With fewer than 20,000 wild lions left in Africa, every sighting is both a thrill and a reminder of what’s at stake. Conservation-focused travel makes a difference. At Hills of Africa, we’re proud to send our clients to camps and lodges that protect lion habitats, support local communities, and keep these wild spaces truly wild.

Let’s help ensure that future generations can experience the awe of locking eyes with a lion in its natural home.

This is how safari should feel - raw and untouched by man. No traffic jams at a lion sighting. It is important to remember it is a privilege to watch these animals in their natural state. It's not fun for anyone, especially the animals to have their homes crowded with game vehicles.

Recently, Abby took this photo while she visited South Luangwa National Park and Liuwa Plains National Park in Zambia. You can feel the lack of other humans around in the picture. In fact, the whole time she was in both of these parks she hardly saw another vehicle.

There are more places than those crowded with vehicles to see amazing game, you just have to know who to ask.

We love our dry season safaris, they're popular for a reason, but that doesn't mean it's the only option!

There's so much time in the year to go on safari, and you will see so many different things than a typical dry season safari. You might see calving season, or mass amounts of birds, or even just stunning landscapes shaped by the life giving rains!

Africa has so much to offer to you, let us show you just how much!

Forget the game vehicle… could walking be the best way to experience safari?

There’s something magical about being on foot in the bush. Slowing down, tuning in, and truly becoming part of the wilderness. In our latest blog, Abby shares why she thinks walking safaris offer a deeper, more intimate connection to Africa's landscapes and wildlife after her most recent trip to Zambia with Andrea Hugo Associates.

Discover the magic of walking safaris in Zambia with Robin Pope’s Mobile Safari Camp. This off-the-grid experience blends wild adventure, luxurious comfort, and unforgettable wildlife encounters in South Luangwa National Park.

Ask the travel agent:

"We love all our local guides, and we love to use guides that are based in the areas our clients are visiting – for example we love working with Pam our food and wine guide in Cape Town; she lives in Cape Town, eats in Cape Town and wines in Cape Town. We choose our guides based on our clients desires, for example, if our clients like sky diving, we’ll use a guide that is passionate and trained in sky diving; if they want to bike around the winelands we’ll use a guide who loves biking but also loves wine. Our knowledge of who to use and the fact that we’ve actually worked personally with these guides is how we choose our guides in Africa."

“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” – Nelson Mandela 🇿🇦

Today, on Nelson Mandela Day, we pause to honor the life and legacy of a man who changed the world through courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice.

For our founder, Sandy Salle, Nelson Mandela is more than a hero, he’s a personal role model. His ability to lead with grace, to forgive with strength, and to believe in the beauty of a united South Africa continues to inspire her every day.

Today, we invite you to give back, lift others up, and embody the spirit of Madiba —every day, in every small way.
