Join us for our Sand Dollar Island Tour at 10:30 Wednesday Morning.
When the tide is low, it’s time to go! Join us aboard the Miss Morehead City, the largest and most comfortable boat to Sand Dollar Island—a hidden sandbar only accessible at low tide and known for its shallow tidal pools perfect for shelling.
Enjoy plenty of space on board and a fast, safe, fully narrated ride past the Morehead City State Port, Sugarloaf Island, Fort Macon, and Shackleford Banks. Depending on wind conditions, our captain will choose the best drop-off point to give you the greatest chance of finding beautiful sand dollars. Your guide, Captain Rusty, has spent 45 years navigating these waters—if anyone can help you find sand dollars, it’s him. You’ll be dropped off on Sand Dollar Island and picked up two hours later.
Sand dollars make wonderful souvenirs, but please leave live ones behind. Live sand dollars are brown or purple, have tiny moving bristles, and may stain your hands yellow. Dead sand dollars are white, smooth, and shell-like. Bring a small container or bucket to collect them.
